Likoma, Nkhatabay Chiefs endorse Chakwera’s second term bid

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Likoma and Nkhatabay chiefs unanimously on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 endorsed President Lazarus Chakwera’s second term bid.

The endorsement comes after Chakwera met chiefs from Likoma and Nkhata-Bay at Mzuzu State Lodge in Mzuzu City, where they have reflected on critical matters impacting the respective districts, in a bid to forge a path to meaningful development.

During the meeting chiefs praised the president for implementing projects such as the construction of modern roads, water projects, the Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP) and provision of relief aid.

In his remarks, Sub T/A Mwase from Likoma has hailed President Chakwera for constructing a state of the art Jetty in Likoma as well as a modern hospital.

Taking his turn, Senior Chief Mwalughanga of Nkhata-Bay praised President Chakwera for the timely distribution of fertilizer to the people of the district through National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) loans.

The chief also thanked the Malawi leader for constructing Nkhata-Bay / Thoto Road.

“The people of Nkhata-Bay will never forget you because nobody thought that this road, which is full of rocks, would one day be improved to bitumen standard,” he said.

Mwalughanga therefore assured President Chakwera that the people of Nkhata-Bay and Likoma will give him a second term of office to finalize the development projects that he has already initiated in order to effect consistency and continuity.

Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Richard Chimwendo Banda thanked President Chakwera for granting an audience with the chiefs saying the opportunity has given the chiefs an opportunity to directly register their concerns to him.

The meeting has drawn together Senior Chiefs, Traditional Authorities (T/As), and sub-Traditional Authorities, as well as Group Village Women and Headmen from the two districts.
