MCP members defect to governing DPP in Nkhata Bay

Over 64 members of the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in Nkhata Bay District have defected to the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the forthcoming fresh presidential election.

DPP’s director of Logistics Symon Vuwa Kaunda, who is also a legislator for Nkhata Bay Central Constituency, welcomed the new members at a rally at Tukombo trading centre.

Vuwa said “DPP’s open door policy remains intact.”

He added:” It’s never too late to join the DPP.”

Kaunda, who is Minister of Tourism, said President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika had undertaken key development projects that had changed the face of the district, such as the Mzuzu- Nkhata Bsy road, the new district hospital, technical college and modern markets.

“President Mutharika will continue to develop the district and vote for the DPP-UDF alliance,” he said.

The Mzuzu-Nkhata Bay road is widely praised as the best road in the country.
