BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-An umbrella advocate for the plight of girl’s rights has written government over growing insecurity of girls and women in the country.

According to a petition from Malawi Girls Guide Association, the body wants the ministry of gender to provide safe space for women in the country.

Presenting the petition at Lilongwe city council, Alinafe Mahimanya, project officer for the grouping expressed fury over the increase in cases of rape and defilement.

“Why must we continue to be raped, defiled and victimized at will as though there’re no laws in the country?” wondered Mahinyama.

She as an organisation working with young girls and women they are asking government to offer legal redress and security against all forms of violence against women in the country.

While commending the association for a peaceful demonstration Lilongwe City Council official Hudson Kuphanga assured the petitioners their concerns will be delivered to the Ministry of Gender for address.

Meanwhile there’s fresh demonstrations on ending sexual harassment across the country’s main cities organized by association of women in media.
