Malawi and Mozambique have reaffirmed their commitment to bilateral cooperation, with President Lazarus Chakwera emphasizing that the two countries will continue to work together in key development areas.
Chakwera made this statement during the commissioning of the Dedza/Colomue ONE-GO border post, a landmark development poised to revolutionize trade activities between the two nations.
The new border post is expected to streamline trade and commerce, fostering economic growth and development in the region.
Chakwera highlighted the significance of the 50-year diplomatic relationship between Malawi and Mozambique, noting that it has enabled the countries to work towards common goals in various sectors.

“We share a lot in common, including tradition and culture,” Chakwera said, underscoring the strong historical ties between the two nations.
“As strategic development partners, we must continue to explore potential areas of cooperation in trade, transportation, and mining for the mutual benefit of our people,”he added.
Mozambique’s President, Daniel Francisco Chapo, echoed Chakwera’s sentiments, emphasizing the need to promote effective policies that address trade barriers between the two countries.
Chapo’s remarks underscored the importance of creating a conducive environment for trade and investment, which will ultimately benefit the people of both nations.
The commissioning of the Dedza/Colomue ONE-GO border post marks a significant milestone in the bilateral relationship between Malawi and Mozambique.
The development is expected to enhance trade facilitation, reduce travel times, and improve the overall efficiency of cross-border transactions.
As Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Chakwera reiterated his commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region. The leader’s remarks highlight Malawi’s dedication to regional cooperation and development.
The strengthened partnership between Malawi and Mozambique is expected to yield numerous benefits, including increased trade volumes, improved infrastructure, and enhanced economic cooperation.
