Malawi Supreme Court nullifies opposition DPP NGC resolutions

Peter Mutharika

Mutharika endorsed as DPP 2025 presidential candidate

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Supreme Court has discharged an order of stay on an injunction obtained by Billy Malata, a member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) which stopped the party, its Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey, and spokesperson Shadric Namalomba from holding a National Governing Council (NGC) meeting.

Malata’s lawyer, Wapona Kita told Zodiak online that court by its motion has vacated the injunction following the failure by DPP to honor an interparty hearing within seven days of the order.

The opposition DPP held an NGC meeting on July 3, 2023, in Mangochi.

The meeting endorsed Peter Mutharika as the torch-bear for DPP in 2025.

This, therefore means that the resolution of the NGC in Mangochi is null.

The court also slapped the respondent’s DPP with costs in the matter after Kita filled out a certificate of non-compliance.

The party leadership is yet to respond on the matter.
