LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawians on social media are demanding proof of MK635 million payment from Germany’s butchery firm on a dubious and fraudulent fertilizer deal.
The demand comes after Malawi’s Attorney General (AG) Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda told local press that public funds have been paid back through a “staged” email received from a German prosecutor known as Florian Weinzier
But forensic experts have questioned the authenticity of the purported letter from Weinzier.
The letter, which contains an error in the first paragraph, appears to have been hastily written, resembling the work of a kindergarten pupil or a student in reception level or standard 1.
The letter being circulated contains several grammatical errors, which is surprising for someone who claims to be a legal expert and prosecutor adhering to German standards.
“here is a quick update and let me apologize for making it short, as I am not in the office at the moment: I am very happy to inform you, that just a few minutes ago the transfer of the amount of 516.975,21 EUR to the account of the Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi was initiated. Of course, it might take a few days until the amount will appear on the account.” reads the letter in verbatim.
The letter has no email, signature, or stamp to authenticity its content.
The expert also cautioned that the letter, if proven to be fake could point to the Malawi government’s continued scheme to embezzle taxpayers’ money,’ after failing to do so through the purchase of fertilizer from a dubious butchery company.
The German Embassy in Malawi is yet to comment regarding the authenticity of the letter or the alleged prosecutor being an alleged employee of the federal government of Germany.

AG Nyirenda, known for shifting goalposts and offering amnesty to people facing fraud and corruption charges has promised to provide “proof” of the repayment.
Nyirenda is currently in German for the reason to be known to the public.
The Maravi Post snap investigation on profile details of the said “German government prosecutor Florian Weinzier shows that he is a lecturer in Munich. His profile does not say anything about his current position in government.
This publication has come across about two articles attributing Weinzier as Spokesperson for the prosecutors’ office in Munich.
The Maravi Post went further calling the designated contact numbers but the calls were not answered on several attempts.
Despite all this, Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu has confirmed public funds payback from butchery.
But Malawians want proof of the payment and demanding prosecution of those involved in the botched deal.”
“Without arrests, prosecutions and convictions of those involved is nothing,” says Limbani Bello.
Charles Kalison chipped in, “How can members of the general public be convinced considering that people who did this are the same who are today announcing what they call ‘ recovery of the money?’
Sending thieves to catch fellow thieves! An independent follow-up was supposed to be conducted on the matter”.
“We want the original copy otherwise he is lying. This was a mission. They are taking us, Malawians for granted,” adds Titus William.
