In a shocking display of abandonment, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has left one of its most vocal supporters, Dan Lu, to fend for himself after his recent arrest.
Despite composing songs praising MCP leader Lazarus Chakwera, Dan Lu spent 48 hours in a cell without receiving any solidarity visits from MCP ministers, MPs, or councilors.

“It’s unbecoming of a party that claims to value its supporters,” said one fan. “Dan Lu has done so much for the MCP, and this is how they repay him?” He added.
Dan Lu’s arrest and subsequent abandonment by the MCP have raised questions about the party’s commitment to its supporters.
“If they can’t even support one of their own in a time of need, how can they expect to support the nation?” asked Dan’s friend who opted for anonymity.
The singer’s decision to join the MCP was met with criticism from some quarters, with many accusing him of being a “sellout”.
