“Mutharika didn’t delegate Chihana but Jappie Mhango to Prof Nyasulu’s funeral services as austerity measure”-Press Secretary Maulidi

…..For Jappie Mhango was cost-cutting measures to the event…

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Peter Mutharika did not delegate Second Vice President Enoch Chihana to represent him at a funeral of late Professor Timothy Nyasulu as part of government’s austerity measures.

Instead Mutharika delegated the Minister of Transport, Jappie Mhango, though Chihana was also present at the funeral.

Presidential Press Secretary, Cathy Maulidi has told MIJ Online that “the decision was a direct application of austerity measures.”

“While a Vice President requires a full entourage for escort, a Minister travels with only a driver and a single security officer.

“By delegating the Minister, the President acted strategically to conserve public resources and ensure fiscal discipline,” she added.

This comes after Chief Mtwalo rebuke government machinery for delegating a minster to represent Mutharika at the event while Second Vice President was available.

With this State House clarification puts Chihana office in an awkward position on his appetite for travels.

Chihana must live within the means on government events not just jump from one function to another, its costly.
