Nkhata Bay Council eyes higher revenue after MK148m lodge renovation

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Nkhata Bay District Council is set to boost its revenue collection following the completion of the rehabilitation of its lodge located in the area of Senior Chief Mkumbira.

The lodge had been temporarily closed to allow for the much-needed rehabilitation works.

Now that the facility has been revamped, the council anticipates an increase in the number of customers and, consequently, higher returns.

James Tembo, Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Nkhata Bay District Council, expressed confidence that the upgraded lodge will significantly enhance the council’s income generation capacity.

He highlighted the potential of the newly rehabilitated facility to attract more business and support local tourism.

Senior Chief Mkumbira praised the government for its commitment, noting that the renovation of the lodge has not only revived its function but also enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the district.

He emphasized that the lodge, originally constructed in 1953, now stands as a symbol of progress and development in the area.

The rehabilitation was carried out under the Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) programme.

The project was implemented by the National Local Government Finance Committee.

It received financial support from the World Bank, amounting to K148 million.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen local governance and improve service delivery through sustainable infrastructure development.

With the lodge now fully operational, both council officials and community leaders are hopeful that it will contribute positively to the district’s economic landscape.
