LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The National Registration Bureau (NRB) has registered 12.3 million since the exercise started in 2016 that many Malawians have national Identity Cards (IDs).
Mphatso Sambo, Principal Secretary responsible for National Registration in the Ministry of Homeland Security told the news conference on Thursday, August 23 in the capital Lilongwe that despite the bureau reaching the target will continue registering every Malawian as mandated by law.
“Despite challenges with delayed issuance of national identity cards, the registration rate has increased by 75%, with 200,000 cards being printed monthly,” said Sambo
He therefore assured the public that all remaining unprinted cards will be completed by September this year.
Sambo also emphasized that the bureau is on track to meet the Sustainable Development Goals of registering every eligible person by 2030.
