LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Fleetwood Haiya, President of the Superleague of Malawi (SULOM), has urged companies and well-wishers to invest in Superleague teams to foster the development of football in the country.

Haiya made the remarks on November 20, 2023, Monday at Riverside Hotel in Lilongwe during the unveiling ceremony of Jersey sponsorship and replica for Karonga United FC.

He stated, “The partnership should bring business to the company as their services will be marketed through Karonga United hence let me ask Infraworks to make good use of this opportunity”.

Haiya stressed the urgency of fostering a robust commercialization drive within Malawi’s football landscape.

“Running Super League league teams is a challenge in the country hence coming in of sponsors to the teams eases pressure from the officials. I believe that what the chairman of Karonga Alufeyo Chipanga has promised will be fulfilled.

“Let discipline be Paramount within the club so that you refrain from tarnishing the image of the sponsors”, Haiya added.

Haiya personally procured the new kit at MK1 million, while Minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda bought it at MK1.5 million.

Karonga United FC has entered into a two-year partnership with InfraWorks Holding Limited.

Karonga United FC Chairman, Alufeyo Chipanga expressed gratitude by describing the gesture as the first of its kind since 2008 when the club was established.

The club will start using the new kit in their remaining two TNM Superleague teams for the 2023 season.

Infraworks Holdings Limited Managing Director Boyd Mwabutwa said the company is ready to support the team but also cited that other partners are welcome to join them in developing the team.

The deal will see the company supplying two sets of playing jerseys per season for home and away matches and Replica’s to be sold to fans, traveling truck suits for players, and a technical panel.

In return, the company will have its logo in front of the Jersey with the league sponsor logo placed at the shoulder.

Karonga United is in position seven in the 2023 TNM Super League season with 37 points from 28 games played.
