Qurve Watch suppliers aids Malawi’s Flames players with wrist watches

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Qurve Watch Suppliers, a South African based company on Thursday, March 17, 2022 extended gesture to Malawi National Football team, the Flames for its outstanding performance at the 2021 African Cup of Nations by handing 28 special designed wrist watches to Football Association of Malawi (FAM).

The gifts will be distributed among all 28 flames players who participated in the tournament.

Speaking during handover of the gifts, Country representative for Qurve Watch Peter Chetama, said flames performance at AFCON 2021 was promising and expects flames to qualify for bigger tournaments than AFCON.

FAM Chief Executive Officer Alfred Gunda attribute Flames outstanding performance to the unwavering support from the corporate sector and individuals when the flames was in Cameroon.

On her part sales and marketing representative for Qurve watch Tamanda Kadwa said that the company was impressed with Flames performance at tournament.

“Being the only team from the southern part Africa to have reached the round of sixteen remains a pride for us.

“This is why as a company which is based in Cape Town thought of designing special watches for the Flames as appreciation for their exceptional performance.” said Kadwa.

Curve Watch designs watches according to customer specifications, it also engraves names, put photos and more.

The design for the Flames was made for the flames was for the national players.

Malawi’s Flames were knocked out of AFCON 2021 round of 16 after beaten by Morocco.

Senegal were crown AFCON 2021 champion after beating Egypt in the finals.

Hills & Associates hands over plots to two Malawi’s Flames players

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Hills and Associates, a company which deals on plots selling in the country, has finally handed over the plots they pledged to two Flames players including Charles Thom and Frank Hellings Mhango for their great performance at the 2021 continental Showpiece which took place in Yaoundé Cameroon.

Speaking at the function in the capital Lilongwe, the Marketing Manager for the company, Brian Chikuse said the company was excited to hand over the plots to the Flames players.

Chikuse duo were given plots following their exceptional performance at the tournament which led the Malawi National Football Team to their maiden round of 16 slot.

“We opted to give them plots than money or cars taking into consideration that football is a short term career hence giving them everlasting gift to remember when they retire from active football.

“Our company is in the country to complement government efforts in uplifting the youths by giving them jobs,we have employed graduates now we want to support the players”, says Chikuse.

Charles Thom who was voted man of the match against the Africa’s number one, The Teranga Lions of Senegal was delighted for finally getting the plot saying this will motivate him to continue working hard.He then hailed the company for the gift.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) executive member Muhammad Selemani who represented Orlando Pirates lethal striker Gabadihno Mhango expressed gratitude over the company’s good gesture saying is the step towards developing the sport in the country.

Mhango scored three goals at the tournament and was voted man of the match against Zimbabwe while Charles Thom made his Flames debut in the same game against the Brave warriors before emerging man of the match against Senegal.

The Tecno Camon 18i smartphones were presented by Managing Director Charles Kamoto during the celebratory dinner for the flames held at Amaryllis Hotel on Friday 28th January.

According to Kamoto, the smartphones from one of their smartphone partners Tecno, came preloaded with 80gb internet bundles and to top it off, were also activated with their Double Data offer which enables new smartphone users to enjoy an extra free data bundle each time they purchase a new bundle in their brand new smartphone in the first three months of use by dialing 30122#.

“We are proud to be part sponsors for the Flames participation at AFCON 2021. When we announced our initial support of MK25 million back in November, alot of Malawians were sceptical but we believed in the team and pumped in an extra MK10 million at the Ipatse Moto statehouse fundraiser bringing our contribution to MK35 million.”

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi National Football Team, the Flames have been evicted from the 2021 continental showcase in their attempt in the round of 16 by suffering a one to two defeat under The Atlas Lions of Morocco.

The dreams of the Flames to reach the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations currently taking place in Yaoundé, Cameroon, got blown away after the West African giants, the Atlas Lions of Morocco outplayed to extinguish “The Flames”.

Orlando Pirates attacker Frank Hellings Mhango scored a beauty and probably the goal of the tournament at thr 7th minute in the first half.

This gave hopes to the Malawian soccer fans with support of some Zambian fellow fans that the Flames were going to write a history.

Bu it was against the expectations as Morocco took full charge of the game controlling the midfield spiced by aggressive attacks. No wonder Ayoub El Kaabi levelled the scores to one each at 45+2 minutes.

This broke hearts of many Malawians in several townships of the country such as Mtsiliza, Senti, Chigwirizano, Kameza, Manje,Ndilande, Chibavi, Mchengautuwa and Zolozolo who banked in their belove Flames.

First half ended one all with Malawi looking inferior under siege of the Moroccans who kept on attacking despite their efforts being denied by the posts.

Came second half, Malawi started on a slower pace than expected, giving the balls so cheaply, failing to keep the possessions with poor passing accuracy and marking hence Morocco took advantage as they had to move freely all over the field of play.

Flames goalminder, Charles Thom made several beautiful saves with Francisco Madinga, Gabadihno Mhango, Khuda Muyaba making some attacking efforts but to no avail as they were blocked by the solid defence of Morocco.

Mario Marinica and Meck Mwase made several substitutions to restore life to the struggling Flames. Silver Strikers’ Mark Fodya and Stain Davie made their debut replacing Stanley Sanudi and Francisco Madinga.

Robin Ngalande and Gerald Phiri Jnr replaced Chimwemwe Idana and Micium Mhone respectively but this changed nothing.

Gerald Phiri Jnr committed a foul and a free kick was awarded to the Moroccans leading to Hakimi directly scoring from the free kick spot sending the ball far post of Charles Thom. This was at 70th minute.

Morocco continued with their dominance until the last whistle, It was the end of the road for the beloved Flames which were eying for their first ever quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations but “The Atlas Lions” were too good for them hence failed to match their play.

Frank Hellings Mhango has managed to score three goals at the tournament. Malawi has scored three and conceded four.

The elimination of Malawi, Zimbabwe and Comoros Island in the competition means now renders Southern Africa having no representative.

#AFCON2021: Malawi’s Flames ready to fight Morocco

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Vice Captain for the Malawi National Football Team “The Flames” John CJ Banda has assured the nation that the team is ready to play Morocco and get a crucial victory over the North African Giants today, January 25, 2022 in the round 16 of the 2021 Continental showpiece in Yaoundé Cameroon.

Banda added that, all players are aware about how vital the game is,saying if they can manage to go through this stage they will draw the attention of many scouts both from Africa and other continents including Europe hence they have promised to play with their lungs out to open up other opportunities.

“Let me first thank our technical panel led by Mario Mariana Marinica and Meck Mwase, they have encouraged us in many ways a head of this encounter. That draw against Senegal gave us courage which we will take into this game against Morocco.

“Our Coaches have given us vital information about Morocco, We have great chance of winning it,we have played them before”, Banda added.

Mario Marinica, who is leading the Flames technical panel at the tournament, said he is impressed with the way the players have been responding to the training sessions.

“The team is very well prepared, the players are working so hard we are as a family,so far everything looks so great,commitment and focus is very good.Morocco plays very fantastic football.

“They have been unbeaten for a good number of games and they play organized football but we are equally ready for the showdown as we have done in the previous games”,Marinica lamented.

Flames qualified to the last 16 of the continental showpiece for the first time in history,they battle it out with Morocco on Tuesday from 2100hours in the evening in Yaoundé Cameroon.

Idriss A. Nassah’s tweet gets negative reaction from Gabadinho Mhango

 Idriss A. Nassah accusing the Malawi Flames of using JUJU and a picture of an elderly Malawian who is part of the team’s support staff is generating many negative responses accusing him of being un-patriotic.

Nassah wrote, The Malawi national football team is going to surprise many at #AFCON2021 Morocco is next in line and will fall.

#AFCON2021: Malawi’s Flames free from COVID-19 ahead of Morocco game

YAOUNDE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi National Team, “The Flames”, has been declared free from global pandemic Covid-19 a head of their crucial 2021 African Cup of Nations round of 16 encounter against the North African Giants Morocco.

All players and technical staff have tested negative to the pandemic after PCR test today.

This means that the technical panel led by Mario Mariana Marinica and Meck Mwase will have a full squad on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 against Morocco.

YAOUNDE-(MaraviPost)-Gambia has qualified to the round of 16 after defeating Tunisia by narrowly a goal to nil,the lone goal scored by Jarrow at 93rd minute.

Tunisia had chance to lead in the end of the first half after they got a penalty but Gaye Gambia goalie easily saved Jaziri’s effort for a corner kick.Musa Barrow nearly scored for Thom Saintfeit’s side through a free kick but he ended up hitting the cross bar.

The debutants Gambia will now face Guinea in the round of 16 after finishing second with seven points after winning their two games while Mali who have also finished with Seven points from the same number of games on position one will face Equatorial Guinea.

Tunisia has finished with three points on third position qualifies also as a best loser in their group will battle it out against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Mauritania will be heading home after failing to collect even a single point in the group.

Thom Saintfeit side who are ranked 150 on FIFA ranking has performed extremely well in their maiden continental Showpiece.

YAOUNDE-(MaraviPost)-The Elephants of Ivory Coast starved the Foxes of Algeria in the desert near Cameroon on Thursday evening at the on going continental Showpiece.

In the fierce battle, the desert Foxes looked inferior in the midfield and in attacking which resulted in giving rooms for the Elephants to be moving freely.

At 23rd minute Franck Kessie opened the score sheet with beautiful display from Ibrahim Sangare, Jean Seri,Max Alain Gradel which managed to break the Algerian defense.

Ibrahim Sangare headed in a second on 40th minute,this time around Algeria looked slowly giving in as they continued to struggle though Ismael Bennacer,Baghdad Bounedjah and Riyard Mahrez trying their efforts.

First half ended with the defending champions Algeria trailing by two goals to nil.

Second half the boys from Abidjan continued attacking the Foxes giving them no room to move and take some shots at the goal of Badra Ali Sangare.

At 55th minute Arsenal attacker Nicolas Pepe scored a beauty after another beautiful display and this was to seal everything and bury the Foxes at the same time confirming about their early elimination from the 2021 African Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.

Few minutes later Algeria was given a penalty but Manchester City star, Riyard Mahrez, ended up hitting the left upright of Sangare.

Bendebka scored a consolation goal for the desert Foxes as they get eliminated.

Towards the end of the match,Ivory Coast scored the fourth but it was ruled out for offside. The defeat means the defending champions Algeria have been eliminated from the tournament with a point from three group E games played.

Ivory Coast has gone through as group winners with seven points and Equatorial Guinea on second position.

Malawi qualifies into round of 16

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The waiting is over and it is now confirmed that Malawi National Football Team the Flames have gone through into the last sixteen of the Continental showpiece currently taking place in Cameroon.

Flames was in a waiting game as they were looking forward for the results in other groups of the competition to get assured about their historical round of 16 break through.

Nigeria and Egypt defeated Guinea Bissau and Sudan with,two goals to nil and one goal to nil respectively to aid Malawi to finish as a best loser in group B and earn a place in the knock out stages.

Whatever happens in other final games on Thursday involving Sierra Leone against Equatorial Guinea, Algeria and Ivory Coast, Tunisia versus Gambia and Mauritania,Mali will not have any impact on Flames’ qualification.

Malawi has finished with four points in group B following their two goals to one victory over the Warriors of Zimbabwe, a draw against the Teranga Lions of Senegal and a one nil loss in the hands of Guinea.They are expected to meet Morocco in the knock out stage on Tuesday, 25th January, 2022.

Meck Mwase led team has made a special history of qualifying in the last 16 for the first ever during the three African Cup of Nations tournaments Malawi has participated so far since 1984 and Angola 2010 when they ended up being booted out in the group stages.

Earlier Survey by Sports analysts gave Flames 0.28% chances of winning this year’s Continental showpiece.
