LILONGWE–(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has congratulated the Blue Eagles Netball Team for their continued dominance in the country after winning another trophy.

Speaking during the trophy presentation to the Malawi Police Chief in Area 30, Commissioner of Police responsible for Research and Planning, Dennis Chipao, who represented the Inspector General, said the service is delighted and excited.

“As Malawi Police Service, we are very happy and proud of our team for winning the trophy. This is obviously worth celebrating,” Chipao said.

The commissioner added that despite the service’s efforts, they remain open to receiving support from other stakeholders and well-wishers.

“Employing them is part of the motivation we offer to the team. Apart from that, we make sure we give them proper game bonuses and allowances. Those who are in the service also get promotions, so that’s motivation,” Chipao added.

Blue Eagles Netball Team captain Molly Chisambiro thanked the management for accommodating the team and described it as a motivator as they prepare to play in another crucial competition, the FDH National Premier League.

“It wasn’t easy to win the Nico Top 12 tournament as it drew big teams from across the country. For us to reach the final by defeating our fellow heavyweight, Kukama Diamonds, was a great achievement.

“We are motivated by whatever our top management is doing, and this will really drive us to continue working hard to bring more trophies,” Chisambiro said.

Apart from the MK5 million the team received as prize money, they received an additional MK1 million from the newly appointed Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service, Mr. Richard Chikoko Luhanga.

To put the icing on the cake, the team’s long-serving member Takondwa Lwazi grabbed two individual accolades: best centre and most valuable player, while her teammate Ruth Kaliyenda won the best defender award.

In recent years, the Blue Eagles Netball Team has won numerous trophies, including the Salima Sugar and Mpico Gateway Netball League from 2016 to 2024, and the GoTV Trophy, among others.

The team has also been contributing players to the Malawi National Netball Team, the Queens.

Blue Eagles Netball team faces tough competition

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Blue Eagles netball team, a dominant force in the Central region, has labeled this year’s K24 million Mpico Gateway Mall league as challenging.

Head coach Madano Tepheteya expressed his sentiments over the weekend, following a hard-fought victory against Boma netball club at the Area 30 netball court.

The Blue Eagles secured a 47-21 win, prompting Tepheteya to highlight the significance of experience within the team. However, he emphasized the need for a thorough analysis by the Technical panel to identify areas requiring improvement.

“This season, teams have significantly improved their preparations in pursuit of the championship. As the defending champions. We recognize the necessity of elevating our performance to secure the title once more.

“Undoubtedly, the path to victory is formidable. But, we remain optimistic about retaining the trophy here at Area 30,” Tepheteya elaborates.

In addition to their hard-fought triumph over Boma, the Blue Eagles dominated the newcomers, Great Queens, with a commanding 106-06 victory.

The achievement propelled them to the top of the MK24 million Mpico Gateway Mall league, displacing MAFCO Soldiers.

Despite their strong legacy and consistent championship wins since the league’s inception, the area 30 Netball-based team faces stiff competition this season.

Challengers including Civonets, Lioness, and MAFCO Soldiers are poised to challenge their supremacy for the title.

At present, the Blue Eagles have accumulated 20 points, placing them on par with second-placed Civonets as their position on the top of the table is bolstered by their superior goal difference.

Notably, Civonets secured victories against Young Eagles (37-27) and Vanessa Sisters (65-23) in compelling matches. Lioness stands at the third position, while MAFCO Soldiers slipped to fourth place after not competing over the weekend.

For the past fortnight, MAFCO Soldiers held the top spot, adding an extra layer of intensity to the ongoing league competition.
