Bad news: Mzuzu Man kills friend over K100 note

A 28-year old man Garden Soko, is in police custody for allegedly murdering his friend on 5 April, 2017 at Zigwagwa market in Mzuzu.

Mzuzu police deputy spokesperson Cecilia Mfune, identified the deceased as Nelson Ndhlovu of 28-year old who comes from Thomas Ndhlovu village, in the area of Traditional Authority Chulu in Kasungu.

According to Mfune, the two quarreled because of K100. 00 note.

“What happened was that the deceased failed to give a K100.00 note to the suspect as promised. The development angered  suspect, who grabbed Ndhlovu on the neck and he fell down,” said Mfune.

Ndhlovu was taken to Mzuzu Central Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead due to suffocation.

 

According to Mfune, the suspect will appear before the court soon to answer to the charge of murder, contrary to section 209 of the penal code.

 

The suspect hails from Sinda Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba District.

MZUZU-(MaraviPost) – Malawi police in Mzuzu this week, arrested a 25 year-old man for allegedly defiling a 14-year old girl, who is reportedly an imbecile.

The suspect, identified as Brian Mtambalika, committed the crime on March 28, 2017 at his house in the district.

The girl is said to be receiving treatment at St. John of God Mental Hospital in Mzuzu, but lives with her grandparents in Enukweni.

Mzuzu Police Station deputy spokesperson Cecilia Mfune, told The Maravi Post that the suspect was the girl’s lover for some months, and that on March, 28 took her to his house as a wife.

Mfune said when the girl’s parents noticed her absence, they started searching for her, until on March 30, 2017 when they found her at the suspect’s house.

“Eventually, the matter was reported to police, and the suspect was arrested. Medical findings proved that the girl had been defiled.

“Currently, the suspect is under police custody pending court appearance, where he will answer to the charge of defilement, which is contrary to Section 138(1) of the Penal Code,” Mfune said.

The suspect Mtambalika hails from Ndwandwa Village, Traditional Authority (T.A.) Nyoka in Mchinji district.

A 35 year old man Bright Ngwira, was on Wednesday killed by an angry mob at Mchengautuwa location in Mzuzu.

Mzuzu police deputy spokesperson Cecilia Mfune, confirmed to The Maravi Post and described the deceased as a suspected and well-known criminal in the area.

According to Mfune, the deceased was found stealing ladies church uniforms and other items which were stored at a certain house close to Target Private School within the city of Mzuzu.

“Before meeting his fate, the suspect was being taken to Mchengautuwa police unit by some community members, however, while on their way, the suspect was attacked by an angry mob who assaulted and killed him,” said Mfune.

She said postmortem result which was conducted by a medical personnel at Mzuzu Central Hospital revealed that death was due loss of blood.

The body of the deceased is being kept at Mzuzu Central Hospital mortuary according to Mfune, while the police are looking for his relatives.

No arrest has been made in connection to the development.

However, the Mzuzu deputy spokesperson has advised the community to refrain from mob justice as it jeopardizes police investigations.

Bright Ngwira comes from Lusani Village, Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi District.

Mzuzu man given 16-year jail term for defiling epileptic girl

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Mzuzu Magistrate court on Monday sentenced 32 year-old Gift Sakala to 16 years imprisonment with hard labor for defiling a 12 year-old girl, who suffers from epilepsy. The judgement was handed out by the Senior Resident Magistrate, Austin Banda.

Mzuzu Police Station deputy Spokesperson Cecilia Mfune said Sakala committed the crime on November 5, 2016 at Ekwendeni Trading Centre in Mzimba district.

The magistrate’s court heard that the girl who is epileptic, lives with her parents near Ekwendeni. On the day she was defiled, she left her home and headed for the market without the knowledge of her mother.

The court heard that the convict took advantage of the girls’ condition and defiled her at a nearby bush.

“When the girl’s mother noticed that her child was not home, she started a search for her daughter, and was told by marketers that she was last seen with Sakala. Later on. the victim was found being defiled and the convict was immediately arrested.

Sakala pleaded not guilty to the charge. However, state prosecutor Felix Senzani, presented six witnesses and a medical report; these were used against his case. The Senior Resident Magistrate subsequently, sentenced Sakala to 16 years in jail with hard labor for violating the girl child’s human rights.

 

Malawian man arrested for murder in Mzuzu

MZUZU-(MaraviPost) – A 34 year old man is in police custody in the green city of Mzuzu for allegedly murdering his fellow man.

Mzuzu deputy police spokesperson Cecilia Mfune has identified the suspect as Mike Banda while the deceased as Precious Mwale, 30.

Mfune told the Maravi Post that Banda is suspected to have committed the crime on Saturday after he was found with a shirt and cell phone of the deceased.

The police publicist further added that suspect’s t-shirt was found at the scene of crime hence his arrest in the connection of the Mwale’s death.

“The deceased wife on January 14, 2017 told the police that her husband left home for Zambia for greener pastures. She however got information on January 15, that her husband was found dead along Kadambo Stream at Dunduzu area.

“Police investigations led to the arrest of Banda who was found with a shirt and cell phone of the deceased. Furthermore suspect’s t-shirt was found at the scene of crime.

“The deceased’s head and legs were chopped off. Currently, the suspect is in Police cell waiting to appear before court soon to answer murder charge contrary to section 209 of the penal code”, said Mfune.

The suspect Banda hails from Kapichi Village Tradition Authority (T.A) Kapichi in Thyolo district while the deceased, Mwale originated from Makhalala Village, T.A Wimbe in Kasungu district.
