Barry Manilow Shares Hospital Bed Selfie and Update After Cancer Diagnosis

Barry Manilow has offered an update on his health after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

The Grammy Award winner, 82, shared a photo of himself smiling as he lay in a hospital bed on Friday, January 2. Alongside the photo, Manilow assured his fans on Friday that he was feeling “better today.”

Manilow was showered with positive messages and well-wishes from his Instagram followers. Melanie Taylor, Manilow’s longtime backup singer, beamed “that’s my boss y’all” in the comments.

“He’s making it through the rain! Love you B,” Taylor went on.

Guns N’ Roses and The Cult alum Matt Sorum added, “Heal up Barry, much love.”

“Sending lots of love, Barry,” drag icon Coco Peru chimed in.

On December 22, Manilow went public with his lung cancer diagnosis and confirmed he would soon undergo surgery.

“As many of you know, I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks. Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK,” he shared via Instagram. “The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news.”

The “Can’t Smile Without You” singer explained that he needed to finish his annual Christmas concerts in December before scheduling a date to “have the spot removed.”

“The doctors do not believe it has spread, and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis. So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns,” he wrote.

The singer-songwriter announced that he needed “a month to recover” post-op, so he was cancelling scheduled concerts in January. (Manilow had been set to headline gigs in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Ohio this month.)

“I’m very sorry that you have to change your plans,” he wrote to fans. “Just like you, we were all looking forward to the January shows and hate having to move everything around.”

Looking ahead, Manilow said he intends to return to the stage for his Valentine’s Day weekend concerts at Westgate Las Vegas on February 12-14.

“Something tells me that February weekend is going to be one big party!” Manilow concluded. “I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. And remember, if you have even the slightest symptom … get tested! I’ll see you at the Westgate Las Vegas for Valentine’s!”

Manilow has been open about his smoking habit over the years. He told The Evening Standard in 2012 that he’d “smoked for 30 years,” having originally started when he was only “9 years old.”

“Then I stopped about 15, 20 years ago,” he clarified at the time. “Then I just started in Las Vegas and the band and I went down to a little club and somebody offered me a cigarette. And I was back. Within a week I was back. Not on a pack a day, cause when I was really smoking I was on three packs a day — non filters. Oh yeah. I was a great smoker.”

More recently, Manilow switched to vaping. Prior to his recent lung cancer diagnosis, Manilow battled bronchial pneumonia, an oral tumor and was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma — a form of throat cancer — in 2020. (Manilow underwent surgery and vocal therapy after his 2020 throat cancer diagnosis and eventually made a full recovery.)

In 2019, Manilow admitted to the Daily Mirror that he was willing to accept the consequences after a lifetime of smoking.

“I’m fine, I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. I’m very old, I should not be able to do this,” he said. “You saw me going up those stairs on stage — there’s 14 steps up and 14 down, you would think I should be in a wheelchair or something.”

Manilow is being supported throughout his lung cancer recovery by his husband, Garry Kief, whom he married in 2014 after more than 35 years together.

Stovepipe Jeans Are the Elevated Denim Trend to Wear in 2026

The names of trending denim silhouettes keep getting more interesting. In recent months, we’ve seen cigarette jeans, cocktail jeans and sweatpant jeans, but there’s one other style that’s getting a bit of buzz as we head into the new year: stovepipe jeans. The flattering cut is definitely one to keep on your radar, since it’s on track to become 2026’s most popular denim style.

Stovepipe jeans are a cross between slim and straight styles, maintaining the same width from the thigh down while gently grazing your leg. They fall right in between skinny and bootcut options, and have the uncanny ability of making legs look miles long. The silhouette is inherently streamlined and polished for a more sophisticated look, and can even be worn for dressier occasions (even if you aren’t sporting a black wash).

The best thing about stovepipe jeans? They flatter every body type and truly stand the test of time. This is one trend you won’t want to skip. So get ready to shop for your new favorite pair of stovepipe jeans, below.

Stovepipe Jeans Are the Elevated Denim Trend to Wear in 2026

1. Our Favorite: The stovepipe style puts mom jeans to shame — especially this pick that offers a good amount of stretch and cool details, like the lightly frayed hem and light, worn wash.

2. Patchwork Pockets: This stovepipe look gets a fun upgrade with cheeky pockets that add a little flair while still being functional.

3. Classic Black: If you don’t own black jeans, let this pair of Levi’s be the one you add to your closet. The stovepipe silhouette flatters all body types while the hue feels more elevated than blue denim.

4. Commit to It: If you are anti low-rise denim, Madewell’s stovepipe jeans will convert you. This style lands right below your belly button and still offers plenty of support. No muffin top here!

5. Off the Cuff: Prepare for summer now with some cute, cropped and cuffed L’Agence stovepipe jeans. They were made for long walks on the beach.

6. A Complete Steal: If you haven’t explored Quince’s denim options, this stovepipe style is a great place to start. It’s made with the perfect amount of stretch, has a vintage vibe and it’ll run you just $50.

7. A Total Novelty: Looking for a truly unique pair of stovepipe jeans? This Abercrombie style features a suede lace-up front that acts as a built-in accessory.

8. Worth the Splurge: For a pair of jeans that might last you for the rest of your life, we recommend Moussy Vintage’s stovepipe style. This denim immediately conforms to your body and lengthens your legs, making you look like a supermodel.

9. Options on Options: There’s a reason these stovepipe jeans are Abercrombie’s bestseller. The toughest decision you’ll have to make is selecting the wash — there are 12 to choose from.

10. Double Take: The price tag on Old Navy’s stovepipe jeans required a second glance. We can hardly believe these are just $22.

11. For the Curvy Girls: Straight styles are notoriously tricky to shop for when you have a curvy lower half. Old Navy added extra room along the thighs and waist of this pair for a glove-like fit.

12. Petites Please: Those under 5’4 won’t need to worry about their stovepipe jeans looking too long. This pair from Banana Republic Factor comes in petite sizing, ensuring the fit is just right.

13. Channeling the ’90s: In case you needed any confirmation that the stovepipe silhouette is timeless, this pair from Gap was inspired by the ’90s and is still kicking 30 years later.

Tara Reid Surveillance Footage Shows No Evidence She Was Drugged, Police Say

Less than two weeks after Tara Reid claimed that she was drugged at a hotel bar outside Chicago, police claim that surveillance footage shows “no evidence” of someone “tampering” with her drink, Us Weekly can confirm.

In a statement to Us on Wednesday, December 3, the Rosemont Public Safety Department — which operates in Rosemont, a suburb of Chicago — said that an investigation into a November 23 incident involving Reid, 50, remains “active and open.”

The statement continued, “After receiving the report alleging her drink being tampered with, Rosemont detectives reviewed surveillance from the hotel which includes video at the hotel bar. In addition, multiple interviews have been conducted. While video surveillance showed Tara Reid at the hotel bar, at no time did [the] video show anyone tampering with or adding something to her drink. We can confirm that a bartender covered her drink when she left the bar which is standard practice for bartenders to do.”

The department said it is “currently waiting for hospital records” and could not confirm “if or what specific chemical testing the hospital may have conducted.”

Inside Tara Reid’s Police Report After Hospitalization and Drugging Claims

The department is “working” with Reid to obtain those records. “Pending those results or further information coming forward, our detectives will follow up on those leads accordingly,” the statement noted.

The department said “there is no criminal act that has been committed and there is no one we are currently investigating. While we do not have any evidence that a drink was tampered with, it is a good reminder to never leave a drink unattended. If you ever believe you have been drugged or feel unsafe, please reach out to local authorities.”

On Monday, November 24, Reid’s rep released a statement to Us, saying, “Tara Reid is trying to file a police report after an incident in which she believes her drink was tampered with. She is cooperating fully with the investigation. Tara is recovering and asks for privacy during this traumatic time. She also urges everyone to be careful, watch your drinks and never leave them unattended, as this can happen to anyone. She will not be making further comments at this stage.”

A source told Us that day that Reid was in Chicago for ComicCon at the time of the incident, where some YouTubers “noticed her” at a Doubletree hotel bar. Reid “went outside for a cigarette and left a glass of wine at the bar,” per the insider, and when she returned, there was allegedly a napkin over her glass. Reid claimed that she “never put a napkin over her glass,” according to the source.

Tara Reid Recalls Dating Tom Brady Before He Was ‘So Serious’

The source claimed that Reid “took a couple [of] sips and the next thing she remembered was waking up in the hospital,” where Reid’s agent “picked her up.”

The American Pie star subsequently filed a report that confirmed those details and added more. She claimed that she’d been approached by a man named Sean P., who introduced himself as a “very successful influencer and YouTuber” and was with the group of content creators. She alleged that the man joined her at the bar and outside to have a cigarette.

“We went out for a smoke, exchanged numbers and came back, and there was a napkin over my drink,” she continued in the report. “Then the last thing I remember was drinking that drink and seeing a couple sitting next to us.”

She has since traveled home to Los Angeles.

Tara Reid Slams Eating Disorder Speculation: ‘I Love Food Too Much’

“She’s really freaked out by the whole thing,” the source told Us last week.

TMZ, which first reported the news, obtained footage of a visibly dazed Reid being assisted by several people on Sunday, November 23. The video, which was filmed by an onlooker, showed Reid being guided into a wheelchair in a hotel lobby. Paramedics arrived and placed Reid on a stretcher and into an ambulance.

“You don’t know who I am,” Reid said in the clip. “I am famous. I’m an actress.”

Cameroon bans Shisha smoking due to health risk

– –

Authorities in Cameroon have banned the smoking of shisha pipes especially among young people who largely patronize it.

Shisha smoking pipes abound in bars and private homes in Cameroon, but authorities say the the smoking poses a health risk to patrons.

According to the health ministry about 46% of young Cameroonians smoke the substance – which is typically a mix of tobacco, molasses, glycerine and flavourings.

Doctors have said there is a “misconception” that shishas are not as harmful as cigarettes.

The British Heart Foundation has said that an hour-long shisha session can be the equivalent of smoking more than 100 cigarettes.

– –

“Traditionally shisha tobacco contains cigarette tobacco, so like cigarettes it contains nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide and heavy metals, such as arsenic and lead,” it says.

In recent years shisha has also been banned in Tanzania, and Sudan has done same but the ban there has been reversed and reintroduced several times since.

Many African countries are struggling to control the abuse of the substance which is fast gaining prominence.
