Angry Nkhotakota villagers take home Covid-19 patient from hospital

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Angry villagers from Chitute village Traditional Authority (T.A) Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota on Tuesday, February 23, 21 stormed the district’s hospital ward taking out Covid-19 patient who was admitted at the hospital claiming that the patient was not suffering from the disease.

The villagers took the patient back to her village where her condition got worse and died at 8pm the same day.

According to reports from eye witnesses, the patient was showing signs of the disease including having difficulties to breath which prompted health workers at the facility to carryout a Covid-19 test.

The patient’s guardian, also daughter to the patient, however, strongly disagreed with the hospital’s examination results saying that her mother could not suffer from Covid-19.

Defying doctors’ advice to admit the patient at the hospital, the guardian and other villagers took the patient to her home where she completely lost her breath and died.

This comes amid reports that the some people are shunning hospitals in fear of contracting the virus.

Recently, the country also recorded incidences of violence and aggression towards health workers and other frontline staff, a tendency which the presidential task force on Covid-19 described as unfortunate

“What everyone has to know is that we have covid 19 pandemic in our country and during the second wave, we are experiencing massive community transmission” read the government’s statement of Covid-19 situation update of 13th February 2021.

“The denial that is currently being portrayed by some sections of the society will only  make situations worse”

“We loose a lot of people who can be saved if we do not work in unity.” It further stated.

Last week,  an ambulance driver was attacked in Liwonde when he went to deliver the body of living waters church pastor  who died of Covid-19 in Kasungu.

Experts have emphasized the need for more civic education on issues concerning Covid-19.

Weird! Kenyan Police officer arrested for raping Covid-19 patient

BUSIA-(MaraviPost)-Kenyan police are keeping in custody police officer in Busia County after he allegedly raped a Covid-19 patient.

Reports indicate that the officer was among the two police officers and three wardens from Busia prison stationed to guard the Agricultural Training Centre, an isolation facility set aside by the Ministry of Health for coronavirus patients.

He was spotted engaging a patient by one of the officers on routine patrol at the facility.

According to Citizen Digital, the officer on patrol narrated to his colleagues what he had witnessed and they went to check on the suspect and the patient who where no where near the area they were earlier spotted.

They later heard a commotion coming from the women’s ward and they were welcomed by a group of other Covid-19 patients complaining that the prison officer was raping the said lady patient

Health officers were summoned to the scene and the officer was disarmed, arrested and placed into mandatory quarantine within the facility.
