LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Centre for Mindset Change (CMC) and Action Hope Malawi (AHM) have written Ant-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to swiftly probe on tollgate fraud to get the bottom of the matter.

The two grouping request comes barely few days after media reports showed that about MK10 million went missing at the two vehicle passing points; Kalinyeke and Chingeni tollgates.

Consequently, six officers were suspended following the fraud reports.

In a letter sent to ACB Director General Martha Chizuma, the Maravi Post has seen, CMC and AHM want the bureau to act swiftly on the matter.

“The Centre for Mindset Change (CMC) and Action Hope Malawi (AHM), having been shocked with revelations of Chingeni Tollgate fraudulent scandal, we would like to ask your office to quickly investigate the matter in which it is confirmed that some officials from the Roads Fund Administration (RFA) are involved in a corruption scam amounting to MK10million.

“It is so disheartening to mention that when most Malawians are struggling to sustain their everyday life due to economic hardships, other people can be so heartless in stealing the hard earned taxpayers’ money,” reads part of the letter signed by CMC and AHM executive directors Phillip Kamangirah and Sammy Aaron respectively.

Kamangirah and Aaron add; “We believe that corruption should be treated as murder, we therefore call upon your office to speedily move in bringing these culprits to book.We call upon your office to engage the fiscal police in dealing with this matter. We further request your office to make a statement of your action on the same in the next twenty four (24) hours.

“We believe in your capacity as an institution of justice and that ACB has the heart of the Malawian people. Corruption is evil and such acts are in disparity with the spirit of the Head of State and his administration in the fight against corruption”.

ACB is yet to act on the matter.
