BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-One of only three doctors specializing in urology and related conditions in the country, Dr. Wanangwa Chisenga,says he believes it is essential to provide opportunities for those interested in pursuing this field.

Urology is a medical specialty that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the urinary system and the reproductive organs.

Two months ago, Dr. Chisenga told journalists that only three such specialists exist in the country, the other two being Dr. Charles Mabedi and Dr. Linda Kayange at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe,despite Malawi’s population approaching 21 million.

Regarding solutions, Dr. Chisenga stressed the importance of supporting aspiring urologists financially, including scholarships.

He said currently, 17 doctors from England, Jordan, and Palestine are at Zomba Central Hospital providing care for patients with urological conditions.

One of these Dr. Jamal Harisha,has already treated over 80 patients in Zomba.

The leader of the Islamic Health Association of Malawi (IHAM), Hajj Daitoni, says the doctors were brought in to assist a projected 150 patients with these conditions.
