BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has revealed that senior officials from FIFA Plus TV are expected to visit Malawi before kicks off of 2026/27 to appreciate local football and review areas that require improvement in the broadcasting arrangement.

The move is aimed at ensuring that Super League teams begin to earn meaningful revenue from the airing of their matches on FIFA+, a platform that has been streaming local games over the three past seasons.

This development was disclosed during SULOM’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Salima over the weekend, where football stakeholders gathered to assess the state of the game and map the way forward.

SULOM President Gilbert Mitawa admitted that there have been several challenges that have prevented teams from benefiting significantly from the current deal.

Mitawa explained that the three year agreement signed in the past was not favourable to the clubs, resulting in minimal financial returns despite the exposure offered by the global platform.

According to him, the agreement was signed under the previous leadership of Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and its structure did not adequately safeguard the financial interests of local teams.

However, Mitawa expressed optimism that things will change soon, saying there is strong hope that clubs will start generating tangible profits beginning with the 2026/27 season.

Backing the call for reform, FAM President Fleetwood Haiya stressed the importance of reviewing the contract before the new season kicks off.

Haiya said FAM’s expectation is clear the partnership must translate into financial growth for the clubs, not just visibility on an international stage.

The matter was strongly raised by FCB Nyasa Big Bullets during the AGM, highlighting growing frustration among top flight teams.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga openly expressed dissatisfaction with the revenue clubs are currently receiving from the FIFA+ broadcasts.
