MCHINJI-(MaraviPost)-Former Malawi Minister of Lands, housing and urban development Simon Vuwa Kaunda has been arrested for allegedly being involved in corrupt activities related to land issues.

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Reyneck Matemba has meanwhile confirmed the development.

“We have arrested honorable Kaunda on the charges related to the same issue that we arrested honorable Charles Mchacha for. We had delayed to arrest Kaunda because when we were arresting Mchacha, Kaundawas conducting parliamentary business hence we had to wait for him to finish first,” he explained.

Matemba also added that they are in the process of arresting Justice Lloyd Muhara who is outside Malawi over the same matter.

“We shall also get in touch with Mr Muhara and communicate to him about the warrant of arrest that we have. Our hope is that being a lawyer and judge, he will comply with this and come back to Malawi,” he said.

Matemba has further asked Malawians to understand that investigating corruption cases takes time as they are among big issues and require robust resources.

He said the above request follows the observation that  people complain that ACB take too long when handling cases.

Meanwhile, Kaunda is expected to appear before Lilongwe Magistrate Court on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

Vuwa is currently a Member of Parliament for Nkhatabay central constituency.
