The Malawi government has expressed full confidence in the newly appointed members of seven reconstituted parastatal boards, saying they will provide effective oversight and strategic leadership.
According to a statement issued by the Comptroller of Statutory Corporations, Peter Simbani, the appointments are expected to bring fresh perspectives and expertise to the boards.
The reconstituted boards include the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA), National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA), Small and Medium Enterprises Development Corporation (SMEDCO), Council of the National Herbarium and Botanic Gardens, Northern Region Water Board, and Blantyre Water Board.
At MERA, Charles Kambauwa has been appointed as Chairperson, with Tobias Chinkhwangwa as Vice Chairperson.
The board members include lawyer John Gift Mwakhwawa, Olivia Mchanju Liwewe, Bernadette Kalumo, Kettie Mkandawire, and MacCider Katulukira.
These individuals bring a wealth of experience and expertise in various fields, including law, finance, and energy.
“We are confident that these appointees will provide effective oversight and strategic leadership to ensure the success of our parastatals,” said Simbani,adding that, “Their diverse backgrounds and expertise will enable them to make informed decisions that benefit the nation.”
Grace Mandindi chairs the NFRA Board, which includes philanthropist Napoleon Dzombe.

Boniface Kadzamira has been appointed Chairperson of SMEDCO, which has six members, including Senior Chief Kanyenda.

Other notable appointments include Paramount Chief Kyungu to the Northern Region Water Board and Sheikh Hajji Safalani Yatimu to the Blantyre Water Board.
