PIL donates k1.5m books to Chisugulu CDSS in phalombe

In its continued efforts towards assisting government in the provision of quality education in the country, the major fuel importers in Malawi,Petroleum Importers Limited ( PIL) has donated books worth K1.5 million to Chisugulu Community Day Secondary School in Phalombe.
Chisugulu CDSS become the second school to benefit from this year’s PIL Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS)in which the company has set aside K50 Million to support education and health sector.
Speaking during the handover of the desks PIL General Manager EnwellKadango saidhis company saw it befitting to assist Chisugulu CDSS in Phalombe district with a donation of assorted books worth MK1, 500,000.00.
“We have collaborated with Ministry of Education such that we have seen a few CDSS benefiting the donations that we are making today. We do recognize this noble task, which requires a lot of dedication on the part of teachers in various schools,” said Kadango.
Kadango said PIL believes that education is a key to development and that it is only an educated youths that can help in the socio-economic development of the country.
“That is why as PIL, we thought it is worthwhile to put a smile on these hardworking students and teachers.PIL’s appeal is that while Government is doing all it can to stock schools with learning materials, private sectors must help in this cause because we operate in the country and together we can change the status of our public schools in the country,” said Kadango.
Receiving the donation, Shire Highlands Education Division Senior Inspector of Schools Sam-HobbieTembo thanked PIL for the donation and urged the students and the community to take care of the desks.
Chisugulu CDSS Head Teacher Eva Kanjo- Milazie described the donation as timely.
“This donation is timely to our school as shortage of books has been one of major challenges for the past years. These books are very important to both students and teachers,” said Milazie.
Opened in 1998 Rivirivi CDSS has an enrolment of 170 students.
PIL this year also donated 50 desks worth K1.5 million to Rivirivi CDSS in Balaka.

Petroleum Importers Limited donates medical equipment to Bwaira hospital

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)—Quality of health service delivery particularly in the maternity wing at Bwaira hospital in the capital Lilongwe is expected to improve following medical equipment donation Petroleum Importation Limited (PIL) has made.

The medical equipment worthy MK5million includes resuscitating airbags, digital blood pressure machines, oxygen concentrator, wheel chairs, nebulizer machine, sterilizing drum, fetal scopes, suction and glucometers.

Speaking with The Maravi Post after handing over the medical equipment on Friday, Elwell Kadango, PIL’s General Manager said was touched with the pathetic situation at the maternity wing which lacked basic medical equipment for smooth delivery of babies.

Kadango noted that there were worst scenarios whereby patients walk back home unattended to or untreated of their ailment due to limited resources available hence the donation.

He said the donation will put a smile on the facility’s health workers for them to accomplish the noble task of saving lives of babies and mothers in time.

“Our company understands that Malawi, just like in most African countries, has inadequate health facilities yet the demand is very high. Health workers are committed to caring for the sick but the limited resources affect their service delivery.

“In response to this situation and as a means of implementing the Public Private Partnerships (PPPs), PIL has committed itself to working with government to improve the quality of health service delivery in the country. As a good and responsible corporate citizen, PIL has therefore donated a consignment of assorted medical items worth MK5 million to Bwaira Hospital that will go a long way in creating a conducive environment for the workers”, said Kadango.

After receiving the donation Lilongwe District Health Officer (DHO), Dr. Alinafe Mbewe lauded PIL for the timely donations which will facilitate quality delivery of services by the workers.

Mbewe, while disclosing that over 65 babies are born at the facility daily, said the medical equipment will also motivate and ease burden on the health workers at the hospital.

She therefore assured PIL and public that the donated items will be used for the intended purposes and asked fellow workers to take good care of the medical equipment.
