This past week surely was an eventful week, full of colour, circumstance and some sadness. In all, Malawi is firmly in the hearts and minds of both local, regional, and international newsrooms.

The first news that made the rounds was the election to the SADC Women’s Parliament Presidency of Malawi’s Dr. Jessie Kabwira. Elected by members of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary Forum (PF) Women, the Salima North West legislator, is the group’s first President. The elections were conducted during the SADC-PF 41st Plenary Assembly session in Mahé, the Seychelles. Dr. Kabwira serves as Salima west constituency Member of Parliament (MCP).
