Former Timotheos Foundation employees seek Compensation over alleged coercion

By Jones Gadama

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Two former employees of Timotheos Foundation, Frank Namwera and Moses Manja, are suing the humanitarian organization for MK14 million in compensation, alleging breach of agreement.

According to court documents, the duo claims Executive Director Gerrit Oomen coerced them into testifying against Dutch national Wim Akster, who is facing multiple charges related to indecency.

The case has been ongoing for over five years, and the Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Blantyre is set to commence the full trial this week. Akster’s charges border on serious offenses, but details of the allegations against him are yet to be disclosed.

Namwera and Manja’s compensation claim, filed through lawyers Chidothe, Chidothe Company, alleges Oomen forced them to give testimony against Akster.

The former employees argue this constitutes a breach of their employment agreement, hence their demand for compensation.

Efforts to verify the claims with Timotheos Foundation management were unsuccessful, as MBC Digital was unable to speak with the organization’s authorities.

This development raises questions about the working conditions and management practices within Timotheos Foundation, a humanitarian organization aimed at supporting vulnerable communities.

If true, the allegations would tarnish the organization’s reputation and raise concerns about potential exploitation of employees for organizational interests.

The upcoming trial of Wim Akster will determine his fate based on the charges leveled against him.

Meanwhile, Namwera and Manja’s compensation claim will test the boundaries of employment agreements and potential liabilities humanitarian organizations might face in similar situations.

The case highlights the complexities of humanitarian work and potential conflicts between organizational interests and employee rights.

As the trial progresses, more details will emerge about the allegations and the foundation’s practices
