LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) has extended its 5G network coverage in Lilongwe, following initial pilot phases in both Lilongwe and Blantyre.

This development comes after the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority granted the company a license to operate 5G services in 2023.

Addressing the press after fully launched the network on Friday, July 25, 2025 in the capital Lilongwe, TNM’s Chief Technical Officer Lloyd Gowela said the expansion allows users in Lilongwe to enjoy high-speed internet connectivity.

He added that TNM is planning to roll out 5G services in more areas, including further expansion in Blantyre.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Digitalization Baldwin Chiyamwaka lauded TNM for advancing network coverage.

Chiyamwaka said the initiative supports the country’s goal of advancing digital transformation as part of the government’s broader agenda.

Chiyamwaka said “TNM is contributing to the national digitisation policy and that 5G has positive implications for agriculture, health and education”.
