Malawi Transport Minister Sidik Mia succumbs to Covid-19

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Black day for Malawi! Transport Minister Muhamed Sidik Mia has today January 12, 2021 died of Covid-19.

Mia who was Malawi Congress Party (MCP) first vice president was last week tested positive to Covid-19.

He has become a second cabinet minister in Tonse administration succumbed to Covid-19 after another Local government minister Lingisoni Belekanyama died early hours of Tuesday.

On Monday, January 11, 2020 Malawi recorded the highest Covid-19 cases of 452 from 97429 tests with 235 deaths.

Malawi Govt receives US$50m from China to decongest capital Lilongwe’s interchange road network

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi government through ministry of transport has received US$50 million from China aimed at improving roads whereby decongesting traffic over the opened Area 18 interchange road network.

Minister of Transport and Public Works Sidik Mia told the current budget Parliament seating that the funds are available for roads expansion in the capital Lilongwe.

“I’ m happy to announce that the Chinese Government has gave us a grant of US$50 million to utilize the road from Crossroads right through to Kamuzu International Airport Junction.

“This will start very soon. This week we have received the contractors engineers whom we pursuing them to start the project before the end of this year that at least by about to mid-next year we should be able to see a road that will decongest the interchange,” he explained

He added; “Apart from that, we also utilizing the road from Crossroads roundabout or Nchinji roundabout right through to Bunda roundabout. This goes to old town that will be utilized. We have already got funding from Japanese Government to the tune of MK20 billion. So, we expect the project to run before the end of this year because these are very important.”

“Again in Lilongwe it’s going to see road that has never been constructed in the country of the six way from Parliament building roundabout right to Shoprite of the M1 in the old town.”
