Malawi Parliament rejects government assurance report

LILONGWE (MaraviPost)-Members of Parliament (MP) on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 defeated government assurance report which state that the Minister of National unity should not be a politician.

Presenting the report ,Chairperson for the Committee Noel Chipeni said the ministry of national unity needs a neutral person to avoid favoritism.

Chipeni said for a politician to be in the position people can not trust his decisions as every politician has a party to represent.

He said the committee feels that the appointed minister of the ministry should not represent any party.

Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda said the committee decision is not justifiable as every member of the august house is a politician.

Chimwendo said everyone is the house comes from different parties but when they come to the august house they all both represent Malawians.

Regardless the report having other issues that could have been adopted with the defeat nothing will be implemented.
