LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance government says Malawians will buy fertilizer and seeds for 2022/2023 Affordable Input Program (AIP) at MK15,000 and MK5,000 respectively.

AIP task force chairperson Richard Chimwendo Banda told Face the Press on Saturday, November 12, 2022 in the capital Lilongwe that this year’s AIP targets 2.5 Malawians.

President Chakwera is expected to launch the program on November 19.

Chimwendo disclosed that the country is expecting to receive 92,000 metric tones of fertilizer to the tune of MK109 billion from national budget.

He said the commodity will be under National Intelligent agency to control fraud.

Chimwendo added that regardless of ADMARC closure government will use the machinery together with SFFRM to distribute AIP items.

The AIP chair said only Malawians with either valid or expired national identity card will access the inputs.

He said government has institutionalized a toll free number to curb the fraud and theft during AIP products distribution.

The assurance comes amid uncertainties of the program over forex shortage.
