Nankhumwa dares Parliament to probe lawmakers taking bribes on bills proceedings

Malawi lawmakers bribed to pass bills

LILONGWE (MaraviPost)-Leader of Opposition, Kondwani Nankhumwa has asked Malawi Parliament to investigate allegations that some Members of Parliament (MPs) received money to pass certain bills in the last seating of the house.

Nankhumwa told the August house on Monday that the allegations is serious and there is need of agent attention on the matter arguing that the house’s image is being dented.

The opposition leader rose on a point of order asking the house to investigate on the allegations that some lawmakers bribed outside the house to pass some bills.

In her remarks, Speaker of the house, Catherine Gotani Hara advised the opposition leader to bring in a motion in the house as the matter is an emergency that seek serious attention.

Gotan said the house will look into the matter after the whole presentation is made by the leader of Opposition formally.

Last seating, Malawi Parliament passed some of the controversial bill including Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) amendment act.
