LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The 10th edition of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) youth games Region 5 Lilongwe 2022 started on November 30, 2022 in the capital Lilongwe, with Taekwondo.

The games however started igniting fire on December 1, 2022 at the magnificent Bingu National Stadium as the COSAFA U17 Women’s football championship commenced with the defending champions Zambia thrashing Botswana 5-0 in the early kick off.

At exactly 15:30 hours the host Malawi stumbled as they lost 1-4 in their debut of the tournament to highly spirited South Africa.

Both teams started so aggressively to score early goals,Malawi had an attempt on goal through their captain Rose Smith Kadzere in the first 10 minutes of the first half.

The good play from the junior scorchers faded in the 15th minute as they started struggling in all departments, the back four found it difficult to stop the over speeding South Africa attackers of Olwethu Sosibo,Naledi Nkosi.

South Africa scored through Andielle Mibe a brace at 10th and 38th minute,before Mabahle Mdelwa added the 3rd at 41st minute. Khutso Mogano finished the work for the Banyana Banyana at 84th minute.

The host scored their consolation goal through Mary Mbalangwe at 66th minute.

On Friday,the games are anticipated to enter advanced stage as two state Presidents of Malawi and Mozambique Lazarus Chakwera and Filipe Nyusi will preside over the official opening ceremony at Bingu National Stadium from 16:00hours.

During the auspicious occasion, Derklek Msakakuona’s boys Malawi U-17 National Football team will be battling it out with Botswana in the CAF/COSAFA 2023 Algeria qualifiers group A from 20:00hours.
