BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The President of the Football Association of Malawi, Fleetwood Haiya, has promised maximum support to ensure Scorchers U-20 Women’s National Football Team is fully prepared ahead of their crucial clash against Nigeria in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
Haiya said FAM will work hand in hand with the government to provide top level preparations for the young Scochers as they gear up for one of the most important matches in their football journey.
His assurance comes following a passionate appeal from the team’s head coach, Maggie Chombo, who requested the association to organize strong international friendly matches to sharpen the squad before facing Nigeria.
Chombo believes that high profile preparatory games will give the players valuable exposure, tactical discipline and the confidence needed to compete at the highest level.
Responding to the request, Haiya emphasized that the girls deserve the best possible preparations, considering the magnitude of the task ahead.
He acknowledged that Nigeria remains one of Africa’s football powerhouses at youth level.
He added that Malawi must prepare exceptionally well if they are to overcome a team with Nigeria’s pedigree and experience on the continental stage.
The FAM president stressed that investment in women’s football is no longer optional but necessary, especially at a time when the Under-20 side is knocking on the door of history.
According to Haiya, proper planning, adequate resources and competitive build up matches will be key ingredients in ensuring the team competes strongly over the two legged tie.
The Malawi Under-20 girls have already demonstrated resilience and determination in previous rounds, earning admiration from fans across the country.
Their upcoming encounter against Nigeria is not just another fixture it is a defining moment that could see Malawi reach the final qualifying round of the global showpiece.
