BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) has announced a change in the official launch date for the FINCA Premier Division League, moving it from May 17, 2026, to May 24, 2026.
According to the association, the opening ceremony will now take place at Joyce Chitsulo Ground in Mwanza, a venue expected to attract football lovers from across the Southern Region.
The decision follows discussions involving SRFA officials, the Super League of Malawi (SULOM), and the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), aimed at ensuring smooth coordination of football activities.
SRFA chairperson Dyless Kachala confirmed the development, saying all preparations are now focused on the new date scheduled for next weekend.
Kachala further disclosed that the official opening match will feature Mwanza Stars taking on FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve.
The postponement also clears the way for the FDH Bank Premiership fixture involving FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Red Lions to proceed as planned this weekend without scheduling conflicts.
Commenting the matter sports analyst Ibrahim Phiri said the adjustment demonstrates improved cooperation among football governing bodies in Malawi as they work to streamline domestic competitions.
Meanwhile, musician Gibo Pearson will perform live during the launch ceremony.
