Malawi President Mutharika dissolves cabinet ahead of fresh elections

Muntharika dissolves cabinet with immediate effect

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)– President Peter Mutharika has on Friday, March 13, 2020 dissolved cabinet with immediate effect.

In statement signed by Chief Secretary to Malawi Government Lloyd Muhara says all ministerial functions will be performed by the Office of the President until a new cabinet is put in place.

The development comes a day after Malawi Supreme Court rejected President Mutharika and Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC)’s stay order application on nullified May 21, 2019 presidential elections.

The Constitutional Court (ConCourt) on February 3, 2020 also ordered fresh presidential elections in 150 days.
