At least four people were killed and 24 others injured in southwestern China on late Monday evening in a magnitude 5 earthquake.
Local authorities disclosed this in statement on Tuesday morning.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the temblor in Yunnan province’s Qiaojia county struck around 9:47 p.m. Monday at a relatively shallow depth of 8 kilometers (5 miles).
A report by Global news revealed that at least one house collapsed in the area which lies in the eastern slope of the Tibetan plateau that is frequently hit by earthquake.
In 2008, earthquake claimed lives of nearly 90,000 people in the mountainous western portion of Sichuan province to the north of Yunnan.
At least 250,000 people also died in 1976 earthquake centered in the northeastern city of Tangshan.
