BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Tonse Alliance, a grouping of nine parties led by Malawi Congress Party and UTM, has hailed the Malawi Police Services for demonstrating top-notch professionalism in ensuring maximum security when the alliance partners were having rallies in Zomba and Mangochi on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

In a press statement signed by UTM’s Chidanti Malunga and MCP’s Maurice Munthali, the Tonse Alliance says what the police did is what all Malawians expect from a security body.

“Tonse Alliance would like to acknowledge and commend the professionalism of the Malawi Police Services (MPS) in ensuring maximum security at all events surrounding the Alliance’s rallies in Zomba and Mangochi on Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, 2020, respectively.

“After the ugly events in Mulanje, Phalombe and Machinga on Friday, where DPP/UDF operatives wreaked havoc on innocent Malawians, it was refreshing to see the MPS respond decisively by boosting security at the aforementioned events which passed without any incidents. This is what is expected of a body that is sustained by and is supposed to serve all of the country citizens,” reads the statement.

The Alliance has further urged the police to take indiscriminate action on all those who want to limit the exercise of constitutionally guaranteed freedoms by fellow citizens.

The Alliance’s leadership has also appealed to its supporters to assist the police by maintaining peace and calm in the build up to the fresh presidential election and beyond.
