BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Malawi Electoral Commission has disclosed that ballot papers for the fresh presidential election slated for Tuesday next week will arrive in the country tomorrow.

This was disclosed during a national consultation meeting with various stakeholders in Lilongwe on Thursday by the Chairperson of the electoral body, Justice Chifundo Kachale.

Kachale said 193 pallets of ballot papers will arrive at 5:00 PM tomorrow through Kamuzu International Airport.

The MEC Chairperson has officially announced that the College of Medicine in Blantyre will be the tally centre for the fresh presidential poll.

He further says only 10 political party representatives will be allowed at the national tally centre.

He said: “Vote counting will begin manually immediately when voting at polling centre closes. After counting the results, presiding officers will paste a copy of the results at the notice board and send a copy of it to the district tally centre.”

Kachale has also advised parties to allocate monitors to where they registered as they shall not be allowed to vote elsewhere.

In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, voters will be required to wash hands before proceeding to vote.
