Engineer Champiti urges MUST students to embrace entrepreneurship

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Renowned engineer and Chief Executive Officer (CEO ) for Roads Authority(RA), Ammiel Champiti, has urged final-year engineering students at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) to consider entrepreneurship as a viable career path after graduation.

The RA CEO made the call during this year’s final-year engineering symposium held at Lotus Hotel in Blantyre on Saturday.

He advised the students to acquire adequate knowledge in their chosen field, be specific, and remain flexible to learn from experienced professionals.

On her part,a final-year manufacturing engineering student and chairperson of the symposium’s organizing committee, Mtondera Vitu-Faith Manda,said the event helped them to change their mindset towards entrepreneurship.

In his remarks,MUST alumnus and founding CEO of Nyasa Engineering Consultancy Limited,Peter Ngwira,encouraged the students to develop project ideas that can be turned into serious business ventures.

The symposium held under the theme’ Engineering Tomorrow , Innovation for Sustainable and,Smart Future’,provided a platform for final-year engineering students to showcase their knowledge and skills to potential employers and partners.

MUST is Malawi’s fourth public university established by an Act of Parliament Number 31 of 2012.

It was officially opened on October 24, 2014 by then president, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

The university has five engineering programs which include;Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Biomedical Engineering,
Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Chemical Engineering,Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in manufacturing engineering and Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Textile engineering.
