CAPE TOWN-(MaraviPost)-Manenberg police in South Africa have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly raping a dog.
Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, November 17 adding that a case of bestiality was under investigation following the incident.
According to Twigg, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA senior inspectors were alerted by concerned residents after they saw footage that surfaced on social media showing the man committing the diabolic act.
The inspectors investigated the incident and within hours, they traced the man to his home in Manenberg where he was arrested.
TimesLive reported that the case was opened against the suspect for bestiality in terms of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act and animal cruelty in terms of the Animals Protection Act which makes it an offence to ill-treat, torture or terrify any animal.
Other reports suggest that the dog suffered horrendous sexual abuse, the puppy was also confined to a small wooden box and forced to live in otherwise deplorable conditions.
The dog, a small breed, was removed from the property before going for veterinary assessment at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA and it will remain in safekeeping.
According to statistics, high percentage of GBV perpetrators were likely to abuse the most vulnerable in society such as children, the elderly and animals.
