LOS ANGELES-(MaraviPost)-The American rapper A$AP has been found not guilty of firing a gun at his former friend, Terell Ephron, during a 2021 altercation in Hollywood.
A jury in Los Angeles acquitted the Grammy-nominated artist, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, on two felony assault charges that could have led to 24 years in prison.
Mr. Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli, accused the rapper of shooting at him after a heated argument on November 6, 2021, allegedly grazing his knuckles.
However, Mr. Mayers denied the charges, claiming the firearm was merely a prop gun and that Ephron was seeking financial gain.
When the not-guilty verdict was announced, the courtroom erupted in cheers.
A$AP Rocky, overwhelmed with emotion, rushed to embrace his family and longtime partner, Rihanna, who had been supporting him throughout the trial.
“Thank God for saving my life,” he said, expressing gratitude to the jury.
The trial revolved around conflicting evidence, with no recovered weapon and surveillance footage capturing only audio of gunfire but not the alleged shooting itself.
Defense lawyers argued that Mr. Ephron had planted shell casings to frame the rapper.
Now cleared of charges, A$AP Rocky is gearing up for a major career comeback.
He is set to release a new album, headline Rolling Loud 2025, and co-chair the Met Gala alongside Rihanna, Lewis Hamilton, LeBron James, and Pharrell Williams. He also stars in Spike Lee’s upcoming film, “Highest 2 Lowest,” alongside Denzel Washington.

Dr. Kabambe expressed disappointment, accusing President Lazarus Chakwera’s administration of misleading Malawians, stating that the houses were never completed.
Cassim Ussein Ngwali, the Member of Parliament for Nsanje, had also raised concerns about the construction of 10 houses in Chiromo Police and the 18 in Marka, which he said were still under construction.
Dr. Kabambe, who is currently in Nsanje to hear local opinions on government actions, emphasized the need for the UTM-led government to fulfill its promises to the people.
President Chakwera presented State of Nation Address (SONA) on Friday last week which attracted public outcry on projects authenticity.
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s prominent social commentator Lyson Sibale has expressed deep concern over the mental well-being of former presidential aide Norman Chisale, urging the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leadership to step in and ensure he receives professional psychological support.
Sibale’s appeal comes amid growing worries about Chisale’s public conduct, which he believes could be signs of emotional distress and psychological struggles.
He attributes this to the immense pressure Chisale who is DPP’s Youth Director has faced in recent years, including multiple arrests, legal battles, and the abrupt loss of political power and privilege.
“I think Norman Chisale is not just bitter and angry, but he has developed a psychological problem. He needs to see the right doctor. His behavior is strange, and it is worrying,” observes Sibale.
Sibale further stressed that the DPP must take responsibility and ensure Chisale receives the care he needs.
He added, “The party should not allow him to continue speaking in public until he undergoes a psychological evaluation and receives the necessary treatment”.
Acknowledging Chisale’s past influence and contributions, Sibale expressed his appeal from a place of concern rather than criticism.
“I have always loved and admired Chisale. This is why I am speaking out—because I care. His frequent arrests, court battles, and the sudden shift in his fortunes have had a profound impact on him. He needs urgent professional attention before the situation deteriorates further”, he appeals.
Sibale’s call highlights the often-overlooked mental health struggles faced by individuals in the political and public sphere.
The pressures of power, loss, and constant scrutiny can take a toll, and he believes it is crucial for both political parties and society to recognize and address such issues with empathy and urgency.
As discussions around Chisale’s well-being grow, many will be watching closely to see if the DPP heeds Sibale’s plea and steps in to support one of its own.
In the end, beyond politics, humanity must prevail.
Malawi is expected to general elections on September 16, 2025 that DPP will face Malawi Congress Party (MCP), UTM and others in the ballot paper for presidential seat.
LILONGWE Maravipost: The Leader of the house, Richard Chimwendo Banda, has threatened to deal with Opposition members if they continue to cross the line.
Chimwendo made the remarks soon after Sammer Suleiman, a lawmaker from Blantyre City South East, dared the president to resign for lying to Malawians.
Suileman proposed that the president should be impeached for violating the oath of office, which is contrary to the country’s constitution.
Sameer Suleiman faces libel charges
“The president is being sworn in, and he pledges to uphold the constitution and lead Malawians in faithful and just manner,” said Suileman.
On behalf of the opposition side Thyolo Central, Ben Phiri said that Christopher Manja, lawmaker for Salima South, refusal to leave the house after the speaker placed a 105 order was uncalled for.
Phiri said it is a gross indiscipline that needs the business committee to look into it. Failure to adhere to the rule is a gross indiscipline, and no opposition member will ever use the same standing order.
Several members stood up in protest of the leader’s provocation, but Manja removed his jacket during the chaos, which caused the 2nd Deputy speaker to use the standing order.
Meanwhile Parliament has been suspended for 30 minutes for the members to calm down after the chaos and both sides are doing some caucus.
The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has called on President Lazarus Chakwera to take drastic measures against ministers and public officers who provided his office with incorrect information regarding the country’s development projects.
According to HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence, the officials’ actions are an insult to the President and warrant immediate termination.
Trapence emphasized that the President should be outraged by the officials’ unprofessional conduct and take swift action to reprimand them. “This should make the President angry enough to fire them and not let them go out to clarify his State of the Nation Address (Sona),” Trapence said. He added that failure to punish the officials would perpetuate a culture of dishonesty and unaccountability.
The HRDC’s call comes on the heels of President Chakwera’s State of the Nation Address, which has been met with criticism and skepticism from various quarters.
Secretary to the President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba announced yesterday that Cabinet ministers will provide updates and clarifications on queries raised following the presentation of the Sona.
However, the HRDC is not convinced that this move will suffice, arguing that the officials responsible for providing false information must be held accountable. “It is important for the President to set the record straight by reprimanding such unprofessional officials,” Trapence said.
This is not the first time the HRDC has called for action against government officials.
In 2022, the organization gave President Chakwera a 21-day ultimatum to address the fuel crisis and fire underperforming ministers and officials.
The HRDC’s latest call has sparked debate about the need for accountability and transparency in government.
As the country grapples with various challenges, including economic woes and infrastructure development, the importance of reliable information and responsible leadership cannot be overstated.
In recent months, President Chakwera has faced criticism for his administration’s handling of various issues, including the fuel crisis and corruption allegations.
The HRDC’s call for action against officials who provide false information may be seen as a test of the President’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The new Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Lu Xu on Monday, February 18, 2025 pledged to foster strong bilateral relations between China and Malawi.
Xu assures of initiating development projects including economy, tourism and among others.
Speaking after presenting letters of credence to President Lazarus Chakwera at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe, Ambassador Xu said the two nations share common goals in implementation of development projects, hence the commitment.
She also promise focusing on the country’s modernization and industrialization on top of solidifying political relationship between Malawi and China in line with the One China Policy.
“Being Ambassador, first of all I should build a political relationship, that is we will build our solid relationship based on the foundation that is there.
My second emphasis will be on economic cooperation,” Xu said.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, said China is a reliable partner in implementation of national development projects citing construction of the parliament building and road projects.
Tembo said Malawi will continue to strengthen the relationship between the two countries and tap into China’s Industrialisation and mordenisation policy.
She therefore cited different projects including construction of MUST, BICC, Bingu National Stadium were supported by China saying are symbols of the strength of the diplomatic partnership between the two countries.
The Foreign Minister expressed hope that the new Chinese Ambassador will assist to achieve Malawi’s development goals including industrialisation.
Ambassador Xu replaces Long Zhou who has been in the country since 2023.
Malawi and China have been in diplomatic relations for 18 years.
The Malawian public’s trust in President Lazarus Chakwera has been severely eroded following allegations that he lied to the nation, diplomats, and other stakeholders.
This perceived betrayal has sparked widespread outrage, with many demanding immediate action from the seating Parliament.
The crux of the matter lies in the concept of “contempt of oath,” which refers to the act of showing disrespect or disobedience to an oath or a sworn obligation.
Contempt of oath can manifest in various forms, including perjury, disobedience, and disrespect. Perjury involves lying under oath, either in a court of law or in a sworn statement.
Disobedience entails refusing to comply with a lawful order or obligation, despite having sworn to do so. Disrespect, on the other hand, involves showing disdain or disregard for the oath or the authority it represents.
The consequences of contempt of oath can be severe, ranging from legal penalties, such as fines or imprisonment, to loss of credibility and damage to one’s reputation.
In the case of President Chakwera, his alleged dishonesty has led to accusations of contempt of oath. Many Malawians feel that he has betrayed their trust and disrespected the oath of office he swore to uphold.
This perceived breach of trust has sparked a national conversation about the importance of accountability and the need for leaders to uphold the highest standards of integrity.
As the seating Parliament grapples with the implications of President Chakwera’s actions, many are calling for his impeachment.
The argument is that if the President can lie to the nation and get away with it, then the very fabric of democracy is under threat.
The Parliament, therefore, has a duty to hold the President accountable and ensure that he is impeached for his alleged transgressions.
However, others argue that impeachment is a drastic measure that should only be considered after all other avenues have been exhausted.
They point out that the President has the right to defend himself and that the impeachment process should not be rushed or politicized.
As the debate rages on, one thing is clear: the Malawian public demands accountability from its leaders.
The President’s alleged dishonesty has awakened a sense of outrage and betrayal, and it is up to the seating Parliament to ensure that justice is served.
In the words of one concerned citizen, “The President’s oath of office is not just a mere formality; it is a sacred promise to uphold the highest standards of integrity and honesty. If he cannot be trusted to keep his word, then he has no business being in office.”
As the nation waits with bated breath for the Parliament’s next move, one thing is certain: the fate of President Chakwera hangs in the balance, and the future of Malawian democracy depends on the outcome.
LILONGWE Maravipost: The United Democratic Front (UDF) is crying for Malawi, which is suffering economic collapse due to Chakwera’s regime.
Leader of UDF in Parliament,Ned Poya made the remarks on Monday which was themed at “WALKING THE TALK IN THE FACE OF ECONOMIC MELTDOWN”in his response to the state of National address which was delivered by Chakwera on Friday last week with Poya stated that four years after listening to MCP SONA, the country is still experiencing a crisis and ranks 4th among the world’s poorest countries.
Poya stated that their president Atupele Muluzi correctly predicted during the 2019 debates that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP)’s promises were empty, stating: ‘MCP ingolonjeza zambiri koma sakunena kuti ndalama zopangira zinthuzi adzazitenga kuti’.
“It’s very shameful that the country is witnessing a failure of leadership that lacks vision, urgency to deliver, and leadership that has abandoned the people, said Poya.
According to him, the President’s SONA was a clear indication that our nation, Malawi, is in crisis and our people are battling to survive. Their suffering was highlighted by the 29 instances the President mentioned the word ‘pain’ in only the beginning of his speech.
He expressed his regret at the depletion of foreign exchange reserves, which has caused a $2.2 billion deficit and made it nearly impossible to import fuel, medicines, and essential goods. Furthermore, the Kwacha has devalued, trading at more than MWK 4,000 per US dollar on the parallel market.
He mentioned that Malawians are still suffering while government officials continue to enrich themselves at the expense of their lives.
He therefore said that UDF is ready to take on the responsibility of cleaning up the mess left by this administration, just as they did in 1994, as they believe change is coming again and Malawi will rise again.

The Deputy Minister of Health’s emphasis on collaboration between healthcare providers and the community is a step in the right direction.
By promoting mutual support and understanding, we can work towards achieving better health outcomes and improving healthcare services in Malawi.
