Shameful; Nigeria’s Warri Wolves players brought sex workers to camp

LAGOS-(MaraviPost)-Two Warri Wolves players have been suspended by the management of the club over they termed ‘gross indiscipline’.

According to Lailas News, strikers Moses Omoduemuke and Erhire Felix are the players affected and they are currently on suspension.

Warri Wolves players brought sex workers to camp

In a statement signed by the CEO of the club, Etu Moses, the two players were suspended for two weeks without pay after they were caught bringing prostitutes to the team’s camp during an away game in Ogbomoso, Osun state.

The statement further state that the action of the two players is quite embarrassing and capable of truncating the team’s goal of being promoted to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) if not nipped in the bud.

Malawi’s Flames into a barren draw with eSwatini in Chan

eSwatini coach expects tough 2nd leg

MEETING AGAIN ON MAY 11—Malawi and eSwatini

eSwatini Coach Costa Papic has described Malawi national football team as a very good side that played as if it were at home in the 2020 African Nations Championship at Mavuso Sports Centre in Manzini.

According to Daily Times, the match ended in a barren draw as Flames strikers Chiukepo Msowoya and Khuda Muyaba squandered numerous chances created in the first leg match.

This was interim Coach Meke Mwase’s first game in charge after replacing Belgian Ronny van Geneugden (RVG) whose two-year contract, which expired on March 31, was not renewed.

The two teams are scheduled to meet on May 11 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre for the match that will decide who progresses to the next round.

But speaking in reaction to the 0-0 stalemate, Papic said the second leg will not be easy.

“To be honest, Malawi is a very good team. They play compact football and they were physically ready for this match. From the way they expressed themselves in this match, they came here to win.

“They were not defending like most teams do when playing away. Anyone who watched this match will agree with me if I say it will not be easy in Malawi. But I believe in my boys and we will see what happens,he said.

Saturday’s result means the Flames must beat eSwatini to qualify to the next round.

But eSwatini, also known as Sihlangu (king’s shield), only need a scoring draw to advance on the away goals rule in the continental competition set aside for home-based players.

Meanwhile, Malawi returned from the kingdom nation through Chileka Airport yesterday.

Speaking on arrival, Mwase pleaded with the players to do more and make Malawians happy in the return match.

“We had chances but we did not score. The players must do more and understand that football is won through scoring goals,” he said.

Veteran striker Msowoya was the major culprit in the Saturday match after missing the Flames’ best chance of the game in the 66th minute.

He was later taken off for midfielder Chimwemwe Idana in the 77th minute as Malawi dug deep.

The Flames have struggled to go past preliminary rounds of the competition, having exited the 2017 edition at the same stage after losing 2-0 on aggregate to Madagascar. Malawi lost by 1-0 margins home and away.

Under RVG, the Flames also struggled to score, having only managed two goals in five Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Bullets settle dust on Kajoke’s contract

By Mphatso Sam

Nyasa Big Bullets have cleared the mist surrounding their player, Hassan Kajoke that he is not receiving the packages meant for the players in the main team following his promotion.

The versatile attacker who moved from Mangochi United, played for the Bullets Reserve in the then Chitetezo Mbaula Southern Region Football League in 2018 season before earning promotion to Bullets senior team.

However, Kajoke’s Manager Jaffallie Donda expressed concern that Bullets management are yet to sign a new contract for Kajoke with packages meant for a player in the elite league as currently he has a running contract from the Premier Division.

In an Interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Tuesday in Blantyre, Bullets Chief Executive Officer, Fleetwood Haiya said Kajoke already signed a five-year contract with Bullets and has received the signing on fee.

“That’s a lie, as Bullets we don’t have contracts for Premier Division or Under 20. What we got are contracts for players at Bullets. When we are buying a player, we him as Bullets and once we develop or graduate, the players salary, allowance and game bonuses changes.

“It is Bullets that has subordinate teams; the reserve and the U-20 team. Kajoke signed a contract with Bullets and not reserve team. After his promotion, he is receiving packages from the main team,” he said.

Surprisingly, Donda differed with Haiya saying that Kajoke doesn’t have a five-year running contract with Bullets and instead the player has two-year contact.

He said that, “We are still discussing on what was meant on our agreements.”

2019 TNM Super League; KB and Tigers in a barren draw

KB and Tigers in a barren draw

By Tione Andsen

Kamuzu Barracks and Mighty Tigers on a cloudy Saturday  afternoon shared the spoils after a goalless draw in the opening  TNM Super League season played at Civo stadium in Area 9, Lilongwe.

Both teams have collected a point each and have 29 more games to play for the season to vie for league title, Top 8 and fight relegation battles.

The game kicked off 20 minute after schudeled time due to the absence of marked pitch.

It took the intervention of Sulom Vice General Secretary, Zakaria Nyirenda to facilitate the procurement of a bag of lime  to mark the pitch.

However, it was surprising to see that ball  boys were engaged in the marking process of the pitch and ground owners could not provide the man power.

A minute of silence was observed in honour of former Malawi Defence Force Officer, Liuetenat  Steve Moloseni who  passed after he drown in  Bua River and went missing for several weeks only to be found a two days ago.

He was one of the top top match predictor on Zodiak radio and social media.

Mighty Tigers showcased their new coach, Gerald Phiri whose first time for the race of collecting points away from home provided good display of passing game to the delight of soccer fans.

The two teams played balance game with few opportunities to open the flood gates as other teams the likes of Wanderers, Silver, Bullets and Moyale were getting goals for the season.

Tigers duo of Malenga and Kanyika were proving slippery to Kamuzu Barracks central defence of Nation Harazie.

The first 45 minutes  could not break the deadlock as the teams were tight in defence.

The first opening minutes of the game, Tigers made a quick counter attack through Taonga Malenga whose cross inside the box was shot wide by Shasimbiwe Kanyika.

Tigers rested Victor Nyirenda for Luwale in the 57th minute while Kamuzu Barracks injected the duo of Victor   Saidi and Sammy Chiponda for Manase Chiyesa and Chimwemwe Chisambi.

Just three minutes into the second half, Tigers  could have scored through Malenga but his shot from the edge of the penalty box went wide at the mercy of Kamuzu Barracks goal keeper, Bonage Rweya.

Kamuzu Barracks goalie, Rweya was called to duty in the 64th minute when he parried over Malenga’s volley from right flank.

Tigers nearly burried the game at the dot of full time when Tony Mbulu failed to elude advancing Rweya in one one situation when he parried his shot.

Tigers Techincial Director,  Robben Alufandika said the result has been fair to both team.

” We are happy to have managed to collect a point on the first day of the season. We still have more game to play and collect maximum points to challenge the title,” he added.

Kamuzu Barracks Coach Billy Phambala said his charges have played well and they need to improve on their combinations.

“We are hoping to have a good team since some of our new players were not used. We are happy with the draw,” he pointed out.

Manchester United vs Barcelona

Manchester United vs Barcelona
Manchester United vs Barcelona UEFA Champions league

Manchester United will need a good result in Spain if they are to reach the last four of the Champions League. The team lost 1-0 by FC Barcelona in the first leg of their quarter-final encounter at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw’s poor performance after 10 minutes proved decisive. The latter scored an own goal to give Barcelona the edge. Ole Solskjaer opted to line up a back five. He wanted Dalot to draft in and help Luke Shaw deal with Lionel Messi’s attacking skills. But the Barcelona superstar spent little time in one fixed position.

Scott McTominay and Fred shone in Paris in the last round. Ole wanted them again to form the midfield partnership. In fact, there were talks that Barcelona might opt for a safety-first approach. As per several sources, Arturo Vidal would feature as an extra midfield. But the Chilean was among the substitutes. Philippe Coutinho joined Suarez and Messi in attack on his return to England.

Match Highlight

It took Barcelona just 10 minutes to start the move that would lead to the opener. It also took the help of VAR. Luis Suarez was mistakenly flagged offside as he headed Messi’s cross-in off the shoulder of Shaw. That effort went down as Shaw own the goal.

Luke Shaw’s evening got even worst inside 20 minutes. He picked up the yellow card for a foul on Messi. And that would rule him out of the second leg. Manchester United responded well to the goal. Smalling’s robust challenge left Messi with a bloody nose. Would you call this deliberate to disrupt Barcelona’s rhythm? It could be.

Barca started the second half in an even more sluggish form. And Old Trafford sensed an opportunity to get back into the game. Ernesto Valverde introduced Vidal and Roberto to try and wrestle back control. His tactical changes proved to be effective. Ole also sent on Anthony Martial to replace the ineffective Romelu Lukaku.

With five minutes to play, Ole brought on Andreas Perreira for Rashford. But he could not make any impact into the game. In the end, the United’s boss suggested that he was happy to be still in the tie. Yet, this was the golden chance! Barcelona could be much more threatening in the return leg.

Expectation in the Next Match

Ole Solskjaer is dreaming of another striking comeback in the Champions League. But he admitted that they cannot afford to squander opportunities. Barcelona did not deliver a superb performance. Yet, they managed to come away from Old Trafford with a 1-0 win.

Ole knows opportunities will be at premium when the teams meet again at the Camp Nou next Tuesday. He remains optimistic that they can upset the odds. Just like when they overturned a two-goal deficit against PSG.

Manchester United will travel to Barcelona on Tuesday for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final. In the meantime, why not indulge in the virtual footballing realm? The Managers

Ole Solskjaer: “Going to the Nou Camp is going to be a challenge. It would be a greater achievement [than the comeback against PSG]. With the history of Barcelona, they are not used to losing at home, but we can do it, no doubt about it. We know we can carry a goal threat. Whoever is playing up front, we have to provide a bit more ammunition for them.”

Ernesto Valverde: “It was a great header from Luis [Suarez]. He was fighting for every cause. He was getting stuck into the defenders, trying to work really hard. We suffered, they caused us problems in the second half, but we are happy overall with the result.”

Opta Stats

  • Manchester United lost 3 consecutive home Champions League Knockout games for the first time.
  • It was Barcelona’s 4th Champions League victory against Manchester United.
  • Barcelona won 5 of their last 7 away games against English opponents in the competition.

Salah becomes fastest Liverpool player to reach 50 EPL goals

Egyptian Mohamed Salah has become the fastest player in Liverpoolhistory to reach 50 English Premier League goals.

The 26-year-old striker scored an important second-half goal for the Reds against Southampton with 10 minutes left to play on Friday night.

The goal which came in his 69th appearance for Merseyside club, confirmed he reached a half-century three games quicker than previous record holder Fernando Torres.

‘I think that’s goal number 50 for Liverpool in the Premier League so that’s special – and after nine games [without one], but Henderson scored I think for the first time in maybe 30 games so we are both happy.

‘Not at all [I didn’t think about passing], as a striker I need to score, I am thinking to score. Maybe if someone is in a better position I can think but I just took my decision to shoot and I scored so I’m very happy about it.’

The goal was also his first goal after nine games for Liverpool without a single goal.

No funds for flames’ 2020 Chan, Cosafa participation

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Football Association of Malawi (FAM) says it is not certain of Flames’ participation in the 2020 Championship of African Nations (Chan) and Cosafa Cup due to financial constraints.

FAM general secretary (GS) Alfred Gunda told the Nation Newspaper on Tuesday that their coffers are dry, having exhausted the MK300 million annual allocation from government.

“We have also exhausted our allocation from [world football governing body] Fifa,” he said.

The Flames are scheduled to face e-Swatini (formerly Swaziland) in the first leg of the Chan preliminaries on April 20 with the return leg slated for May 11.

The Cosafa Cup is slated to run from May 26 to June 8 this year.

“We cannot commit [participation] at this point as we first have to source funding for the team’s camping, travel and allowances.

“It is tight, but we will see as we are now searching for funds,” he said.

On the budget for the two tournaments, Gunda said: “I do not have the exact figure, but it is in hundreds of million kwacha.”

The FAM GS said apart from exploring other avenues, they have also asked for extra funding from Malawi National Council of Sports.

“We submitted a request for extra funding to Sports Council, but we are yet to get a response,” he said.

However, Flames team manager James Sangala said they are not pressing the panic button yet as there are three weeks more before the Chan first leg.

“Two weeks of camping would be enough and that means during the second week of April or thereabouts,” he said.

Mzuzu stadium gets green-light to host super league matches

By Lusekero Mhango

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Mzuzu City Council says Mzuzu Stadium will be ready to host games from the first week of the 2019 Super League season.

Executive Officer for the council McLoud Kadam’manja said this recently during the launch of Mzuzu Mayor’s trophy.

“The stadium is ready and this year we started maintaining things in time. In the past weeks we were maintaining the perimeter wire around the main ground and other things, and the council also managed to build another toilet block,” Kadam’manja said.

He added that the problem of water at the stadium will be history soon as the council is doing everything to solve the problem completely.

Kadamm’anja then advised people who use the stadium to take care of the facility and to avoid vandalizing things.

The TNM super league is set to kick off on the 13th of April
