In a show of solidarity as one family of University of Malawi, Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN) students this morning also conducted an impromptu demonstration against the UNIMA fees hike.According to our reporter on the ground, the students were burning tyres in the middle of the road effectively shutting down the road going to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) restraining vehicles to pass.
“The students are chanting ant-government songs and they have completely shut down the road going to KCH,” said our reporter.
He said the armed police have also invaded the place.
“As I am talking, there’s a clash between the police and students as the law enforcers are trying to dispense them using teargas,” the source disclosed.
Recently, students of Chancellor College in the city of Zomba also staged a massive violent protest over the fees hike a development which led to the closure of the school.
However, government is mum on the students’ demand to have the fees reduced; a development some people say is fueling such demonstrations.
