Standard Bank Limited has appointed Dr Rex Harawa as the new Chairman of the Bank, the company Secretary, Etness Chanza, said in a press statement.
According to Chanza, Dr Harawa takes over from Mr. Alex Chitsime who has been Chairman for the Bank since 2004 and retired as a Board Member from the Board at the Bank’s Annual General meeting which took place on 13th May 2014.
Dr Harawa was first appointed as Board member on the board of Standard Bank in October 2007 and apart from being a Board Member, Dr Harawa has over the years also served as a member of the Bank’s Board Risk Committee and the Board Audit Committee. Dr Harawa was the Chairman of the Bank’s Board Audit Committee from 27th May 2010 up to 13th June 2014 when he was appointed as Chairman of the Board.
Currently, Harawa is the Managing Partner of AMG Global Certified Public Accountants and Business Advisors and also serves as Chairman for the Malawi Accountants Board, and a Board member for the following organizations: Kansai Plascon Malawi Limited and Real Insurance Company of Malawi Limited. Dr Harawa has also previously served as Chairman of Malswitch Limited and a Board member for Malawi College of Accountancy and the Malawi Stock Exchange.
He holds a PhD in Finance & Economics obtained from the State University of New York, an MA in Finance & Economics also obtained from the State University of New York, and an Msc. in Economics obtained from the London School of Economics and Political science. Dr Harawa is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Registered Practicing Accountant and Auditor in Malawi, a Certified Public Accountant in Maryland, USA; a Certified Management Accountant in the USA and also a Certified Financial Manager in the USA.
