Ekhaya keep fire burning with consecutive FDH Premiership victory

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Ekhaya FC continued their impressive run in the FDH Bank Premiership with a convincing 2-0 victory over Masters FC at Mpira Stadium on Saturday, thanks to a brilliant brace from in-form striker Allen Chihana.

The hosts entered the match seeking to build momentum following their recent good results and they wasted little time asserting their authority.

Chihana broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, finishing clinically to give Ekhaya a deserved lead after a lively opening spell.

Masters FC attempted to respond and enjoyed periods of pressure, but Ekhaya’s defence remained organized while their goalkeeper produced crucial saves to keep the visitors at bay.

Chihana nearly doubled the advantage minutes later only to be denied by an alert goalkeeper.

In midfield, Innocent Msowoya dictated proceedings with a commanding display, helping Ekhaya control possession and create several attacking opportunities. His influence proved vital as the home side maintained their grip on the contest.

The encounter was fiercely contested, with both teams showing plenty of determination.

A total of 17 fouls were recorded in the first half alone, reflecting the intensity of a match that carried significant implications for both sides.

Ekhaya took their slender 1-0 lead into the halftime break knowing that a second goal would be crucial against a Masters side renowned for fighting back.

That decisive moment arrived in the 55th minute.

Munyenyembe delivered a teasing cross from the right flank and Chihana timed his run perfectly before powering a header into the net at the near post to complete his brace and put Ekhaya firmly in control.

The goal effectively knocked the wind out of Masters’ sails as Ekhaya grew in confidence and expertly managed the remainder of the match. Despite searching for a way back, the visitors struggled to break down a disciplined home side.

As the match entered five minutes of added time, Ekhaya looked comfortable and composed, eventually securing a valuable clean sheet and maximum points in front of their supporters.

Speaking after the match, Ekhaya interim coach Findi Akidu applauded his players for their fighting spirit and commitment saying the victory was a reward for their hard work and determination throughout the week.

Masters FC coach Peter Mponda acknowledged that his side had played reasonably well but admitted they failed to capitalize on key moments.

He said the team would return to training to work on the mistakes that cost them the match.

The result leaves Masters FC in third position with 12 points from six matches while Ekhaya FC move up the table with 10 points from the same number of games, further strengthening their ambitions for a successful season.

For Ekhaya, the victory was another statement of intent.

With consecutive wins now under their belt and Allen Chihana finding form at the right time, the Mpira Stadium outfit appears to be gathering momentum as the FDH Bank Premiership campaign begins to take shape.
