Chatama remains optimistic despite Ekhaya FC defeat to Bullets: 2025 TNM Super League

….Ekhaya 0-2 Bullets

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Ekhaya FC head coach Enos Chatama has expressed confidence in his side’s future despite suffering a 2–0 defeat to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on Sunday afternoon in Blantyre.

The loss marked Ekhaya’s third consecutive defeat, but the coach insists the struggles are part of a learning process that will make the team stronger next season.

Speaking after the match, Chatama admitted that results have not gone his team’s way in recent outings. However, he maintained that the technical panel has already identified key areas that need improvement and believes the team will return “more dangerous” once those problems are addressed ahead of the next campaign.

The match, played at Mpira Stadium, saw Bullets start on the front foot, immediately setting the tempo with quick ball circulation and high pressing.

Ekhaya were forced to defend deep in the opening minutes as the hosts pushed numbers forward, stretching their defensive line in search of an early breakthrough.

Bullets’ persistence paid off in the 31st minute when substitute Maxwell Phodo, who had just come on for Mike Mkwate, found the back of the net. Phodo calmly finished after receiving a well weighted pass from Chikumbutso Salima, giving the hosts a deserved 1–0 lead.

Just before the halftime whistle, Bullets doubled their advantage. Ephraim Kondowe scored a fine goal in stoppage time after being set up by Phodo, capping off a dominant first-half display by the home side and sending them into the break with a comfortable 2–0 cushion.

Ekhaya attempted to regroup in the second half, while Bullets made tactical changes, including the introduction of Babatunde Adebouje in the 58th minute.

Ekhaya also responded with a series of substitutions, bringing in Kester Simbi, Vincent Salawila and later Clever Chikwata in an effort to inject fresh energy into the game.

Despite the changes, Ekhaya struggled to break down a well-organised Bullets defence. The hosts managed the game professionally, limiting Ekhaya’s chances and maintaining control as the clock ran down.

After three minutes of added time, the referee brought the match to an end with Bullets securing a solid 2–0 victory. The win further underlined their authority, while Ekhaya were left to reflect on another tough afternoon.

Maxwell Gastin Phodo was named Man of the Match for his decisive impact off the bench, contributing a goal and an assist. For Ekhaya and coach Enos Chatama, the focus now shifts to rebuilding with optimism firmly placed on a stronger and more competitive return next season.

Bullets remain on position two with 62 points from 28 matches while Ekhaya Fc stay on position 7 with 39 points from the same number of matches.

Silver increase chances for defending TNM Super League

….Ekhaya 0-1 Silver….

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Silver Strikers boosted their hopes of defending the Super League title with a narrow but crucial 1-0 victory over Ekhaya FC at Mpira Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bankers showed determination, discipline and tactical maturity to secure maximum points away from home.

The visitors struck early, taking the lead just six minutes into the match through Emmanuel Allan, who calmly slotted home to silence the home supporters.

The goal set the tone for Silver, who dominated the early exchanges, especially down the left flank where Maonga, Duwe and Vunga combined effectively to unsettle Ekhaya’s defence.

Despite Silver’s strong start, Ekhaya responded with intent.

The team’s biggest threat in the first half came in the 17th minute when Lingu fired a powerful 25-yard effort that forced goalkeeper Chikooka into a brilliant fingertip save.

Silver, however remained composed at the back and cleared the resulting corner with ease.

Ekhaya continued pushing and their penalty appeal in the 45th minute sparked controversy when Kaponya went down in the box but referee Duncan Lengani waved play on, judging the challenge to be a fair shoulder-to-shoulder duel.

Silver maintained their slender 1-0 lead going into the break.

The hosts came out with more urgency in the second half, creating several chances but failing to apply the finishing touch. Their wastefulness in front of goal proved costly, as Silver Strikers stayed organised and focused on game management to protect their early advantage.

The match ended 1-0, with Allan’s early strike proving decisive. Alick Lungu earned the Man of the Match award.

After the game, Ekhaya coach Enos Chatama lamented his side’s missed opportunities, saying it was clear the team still struggles with converting chances.

Meanwhile, Silver Strikers assistant coach Mapopa Msukwa praised his players for making use of the chances they created but reminded them that the fight for the league title remains far from over.

The win pushes Silver Strikers to 56 points from 26 matches, strengthening their position in third place, while Ekhaya remain seventh with 39 points from 27 games.

Kamwendo header gives Wanderers slim win over Ekhaya

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mighty Wanderers’ persistence paid off on Sunday afternoon as they battled to a narrow yet deserved 1-0 victory over Ekhaya FC in a tightly-contested TNM Super League match at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The long-postponed fixture previously halted by October adjustments and a rain-induced abandonment on November 5,2025, came with its own emotional weight.

The history seemed to shape the early tempo with both teams opting to stabilise rather than surge.

The Nomads appeared determined to avoid early mistakes.

The team kept shape compact, recycling possession and carefully probing Ekhaya’s defensive set-up.

The visitors matched that approach, turning the opening minutes into a tug-of-war for midfield control rather than a contest of chances. It was a battle of tactical accuracy instead of flair.

Ekhaya’s first setback came in the 35th minute when Saviel was forced off due to injury, prompting an early appearance by Clever.

Despite this, Ekhaya maintained discipline, frustrating Wanderers with well-timed interceptions and a robust defensive line.

The score remained 0-0 at halftime a fair reflection of a cagey opening 45 minutes.

But Wanderers’ changes early in the second half would prove decisive.

The introduction of Wisdom Mpinganjira and Blessings Mwalilino injected urgency and sharper movement into their attack. Suddenly, Wanderers found an extra gear.

The breakthrough arrived in the 59th minute a moment crafted with precision.

Man of the Match Daniel Kudonto delivered a beautifully curved corner kick and Promise Kamwendo rose above the pack to nod home the opener.

The goal was as much a reward for Wanderers’ persistence as it was a moment of exceptional execution.

That single strike altered the rhythm of the match. Wanderers shifted into a more controlled mode, protecting their lead with composure, while Ekhaya intensified their hunt for an equaliser.

To the team’s credit, Ekhaya ventured forward with purpose after bringing on Lovemore Mbeta in the 83rd minute but every attempt crashed against the well- organised Nomads defence.

For Wanderers, the win strengthens their bid for consistency in a season where every point matters.

For Ekhaya, despite the loss, their structured approach and determination suggest that they remain capable of troubling any side in the league.

Wanderers remain on position two with 59 points from 26 matches while Ekhaya stay on position six with 39 points fromtl the same number of matches

SULOM orders replay after citing multiple failures in abandoned Wanderers–Ekhaya match

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has delivered a decisive ruling on the abandoned TNM Super League clash between Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC, providing new insight into what went wrong and who is to blame for the chaos that unfolded at Kamuzu Stadium on 5 November 2025.

According to SULOM, the match which was expected to draw one of the biggest crowds of the month failed to reach the minimum 75-minute benchmark required for the result to stand under league regulations.

This prompted the league to order a complete replay, now scheduled for 7 December 2025, at the same venue.

Investigators appointed by SULOM examined match reports, security logs and statements from officials and stakeholders.

Their findings revealed that the abandonment was not an accident but rather the result of “multiple deficiencies” by parties who were expected to maintain professionalism throughout the fixture.

SULOM emphasized that both Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC did not adequately fulfill their obligations relating to match organization, security planning and management of supporter conduct.

These lapses contributed significantly to the disorder that forced the game to be halted prematurely.

As a result, both clubs have been handed stern warnings and suspended fines of MK5 million each. Though the fines will not be enforced immediately, SULOM warned that any similar future misconduct could activate them.

The league stated that club responsibilities must be taken seriously in order to protect the image of the game.

Referees who handled the fixture were also not spared. SULOM has recommended that the FAM Referees Committee initiate disciplinary action against the officiating team for failing to adhere to the FIFA Return to Football International Match Protocol, which provides guidelines for managing incidents, stoppages and communication during a match.

The match officials were found to have made procedural errors that contributed to the confusion on the field and among supporters.

SULOM stressed that referees must demonstrate leadership and calm in volatile moments, something that was reportedly lacking during the November 5 encounter.

Internal staff assigned to the match also faced consequences. SULOM has suspended the responsible security officer and the General Match Coordinator for four matches each.

The league cited their “infringements and lack of compliance” with required protocols as key factors that worsened the situation.

The incident has sparked debate among football followers, many of whom believe that stadium management

SULOM acknowledged these concerns indirectly by reaffirming its commitment to strengthening regulatory enforcement. The organization said that the penalties issued in this case are meant to remind clubs, officials and its own staff that professional standards must be upheld at all times.

SULOM has confirmed that all stakeholders have been officially notified of the decisions and that preparatory measures are already underway to ensure the upcoming match proceeds without incident.

The league said it expects full cooperation from the clubs, security personnel and referees to protect the integrity of Malawi’s top football competition.

Ekhaya FC rampages past Chitipa United

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Ekhaya FC put on a masterclass on Saturday afternoon as they secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Chitipa United at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.

James Lumbe opened the scoring in the 21st minute after receiving a precise pass from Emmanuel Saviel, slotting the ball home with ease to give Ekhaya FC an early advantage.

The goal ignited the home crowd and set the tone for the rest of the first half.

Ekhaya doubled their lead in the 29th minute through Blessings Malinda.

The striker’s dazzling footwork saw him breeze past the Chitipa United defense before firing a powerful shot past the goalkeeper.

A third goal came in the 39th minute as Saviel himself found the back of the net.

Ekhaya’s swift passing and coordinated movements broke down the visiting defense, making it look easy for Saviel to extend the lead to 3-0.

At halftime, the scoreboard read Ekhaya FC 3, Chitipa United 0. The goals came from James Lumbe (21’), Blessings Malinda (29’), and Emmanuel Saviel (39’).

The second half saw both teams make changes with Ekhaya introducing Wongani Kaponya for Matchipitsa, while Chitipa United made a triple substitution including Marley Kasongo, Raphael Nkhoma and Daniel Boston in an attempt to alter the game’s flow.

Chitipa United showed signs of improvement in possession but they were unable to penetrate Ekhaya’s organized defense.

Ekhaya also made tactical substitutions, bringing in Samuel Rukula, Clever Chikwata, Innocent Msowoya and Fanizo Mwansambo, which allowed them to maintain their dominance in the final stages of the match.

After five minutes of added time, the referee blew the final whistle, confirming Ekhaya FC’s emphatic 3-0 win. Moses Banda was named man of the match for his influential performance in midfield.

Chitipa United coach Kondwa Ikwanga acknowledged the fatigue of his players after their long journey, stating that although there were opportunities, the team failed to capitalize on them.

Meanwhile, Ekhaya coach Enos Chatama expressed satisfaction with the victory but noted that some tactical points from training didn’t go as planned, promising to address these in upcoming sessions.

Ekhaya is currently in 6th position with 36 points from 23 games, while Chitipa United sits in 9th position with 32 points from 25 matches.

Wanderers vs Ekhaya match rescheduled for end of November

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The TNM Super League clash between Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC, which was abandoned last week due to heavy rains at Kamuzu Stadium, has now been rescheduled to take place at the end of this month.

The update follows the release of a revised fixture list by the Super League of Malawi (SULOM), which has also adjusted several other matches to accommodate the national team’s preparations.

The Malawi Flames are expected to travel to South Africa for an international friendly match against Lesotho.

According to the new schedule, Mighty Wanderers will first face Silver Strikers on November 22 in Lilongwe before taking on Ekhaya FC om the following weekend in Blantyre.

“We are committed to completing the league by the scheduled date. Some fixtures will now be played midweek to make sure we remain on track,” said Chilonga.

He added that the organization has taken into account the national team’s calendar and weather-related disruptions that affected several matches in recent weeks.

Sulom expresses disappointment over abandoned Wanderers–Ekhaya match

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has expressed deep disappointment over the abandonment of the TNM Super League match between Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC, which was stopped on 51 minutes due to heavy rainfall at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Wednesday.

Sulom’s General Secretary, Williams Banda, said in an interview that the organization is dismayed that match officials did not follow the proper procedure outlined in the league regulations.

According to the rules, matches affected by bad weather or other disruptions must be suspended for up to 40 minutes before a final decision is made on whether to resume or call off the game.

However, Banda noted that the officials in charge of the Wanderers versus Ekhaya fixture did not adhere to these guidelines, leading to confusion and frustration among players, officials and supporters.

“The regulations are very clear officials should wait for 40 minutes before making any decision. Unfortunately, that procedure was not followed in this case,” Banda emphasized.

He added that Sulom is currently gathering detailed reports from the match commissioner, referees and both teams before making a final ruling on the outcome of the game.

The body will review all submissions and take appropriate action in accordance with the league’s disciplinary code.

Banda also issued a strong warning to all match officials and supervisors, urging them to strictly follow laid down procedures whenever challenges arise during league matches.

“We expect professionalism and consistency from all those managing Super League games. Any deviation from the rules will not be tolerated,” he warned.

The match, which was being played before a few supporters at Kamuzu Stadium, had to be halted after a torrential downpour rendered the pitch unplayable. Both teams were battling for crucial points as the league season approaches its closing stages.

Supporters who attended the game were left frustrated with many calling on Sulom to strengthen its supervision of match officials to avoid similar situations in future.

Sulom is expected to release its official decision on the matter in the coming days once all relevant reports have been reviewed.

SULOM postpones Ekhaya FC VS Mighty Wanderers

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has postponed the highly anticipated fixture between Ekhaya FC and Mighty Wanderers that was initially scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The development follows a formal request from Mighty Wanderers, who appealed for the postponement citing player fatigue.

Three of their key players were part of the Malawi National Football Team (the Flames) that traveled to Tunisia for an international assignment and have not had adequate rest since returning.

Adding to the challenge, the Nomads are set to play in the semifinals of the FDH Bank Cup this coming Sunday against Creck Sporting Club at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji, another high stakes encounter that requires full squad fitness and preparation.

SULOM’s Vice General Secretary, Donnex Chilonga, confirmed the development, saying the league governing body had considered the reasons presented by the Blantyre giants before granting the postponement.

“Yes, the game involving Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC will not take place as earlier scheduled. We have looked into the concerns raised by Wanderers regarding player rest and fixture congestion and we have decided to move the game to a later date,” said Chilonga.

He further clarified that all other Super League fixtures set for Wednesday and Thursday this week will go ahead as planned.

The rescheduling of the Wanderers–Ekhaya fixture is expected to be announced soon after consultations with all stakeholders, including broadcasters and match officials.

Football Ibrahim Phiri have since applauded SULOM’s decision, noting that fixture congestion has been a long-standing challenge in Malawian football, especially for top clubs involved in multiple competitions.

Meanwhile football analyst Charles Nyerende said it is surprising that SULOM is rushing against time to finish the league by December, yet the season is supposed to end in February 2026 according to the FAM calendar.

Wanderers are in second place in the Super League after playing 18 games, with 42 points, and are the only team so far that has not tasted defeat.

2025 TNM Super League: Cow Boys stun Mafco soldiers to move fourth

….Ekhaya 1-0 Mafco

By Edwin Mbewe

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-A second half strike by Clever Chikwata in the 68th minute was enough to give the Cow Boys a significant victory over the Malawi College of Armed Forces (MAFCO) soldiers on Saturday at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The win took the rookies to fourth position dislodging Blue Eagles FC who plays Chitipa United FC away in Chitipa on Sunday to wrap up the first round.

Coming from a 3-1 loss to the defending Champions, Silver Strikers FC, Ekhaya showed an intent to win the match from the onset with a highly pressing match.

However, MAFCO that also defeated 1-0 by FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in their last match defended well and contained the rookies’ pressure until the first half ended in a barren draw.

Ekhaya’ Hermas Masinja’ volley hit the side net from a highly-intensity pressing move on the right with just two minutes into the match. MAFCO replied from a set piece which Auspicious Kadzongola delivered into the box to Captain Paul Ndhlovu whose powerful header was cleverly saved by Amos Sande to concede a corner which was later defended in the 10th minute.

The home side kept their pressing type of play, in the 17th minute, James Lumbe unleashed a shot on goal outside the penalty box which Christopher Mikuwa saved.

In the 21st minute, Aubrey Chafewa intercepted a dangerous pass by Stanley Billiat resulting from an excellent run, the effort resulted into the corner kick which the soldiers defended.

As the first stanza slowly matured there was a midfield battle between MAFCO’ Auspicious Kadzongola and James Lumbe of Ekhaya showcasing individual skills, demonstrating pace and precision in transitioning into the attacking zones, though the two sides failed to utilize these opportunities to create scoring chances in the final third.

At half hour-mark Lumbe came up with another precise pass which found Safton Chimtokoma who set up Vincent Salawira with a great ball but Salawira’s quick strike was saved by Mikuwa.

The home side was awarded a penalty in the 38th minute as James Lumbe was brought down by Aubrey Chafewa in the box, Andrew Lameck however saw his kick being denied by Christopher Mikuwa guarding the sticks for the visitors and later captain Paul Ndhlovu and Vitumbiko Phiri received yellow cards.

The intensity of the battle kept heating up knowing the pivotal of the maximum points at stake, Prince Kachere was booked by referee Mark Dzimbasekwa for fouling Hermas Masinja within their own half in the 43rd minute as the deadlock was maintained, 0-0. Soon the battle was called for a recess.

Second stanza started with coach Enos Chatama making substitution as Matamando Matchipisa and Lovemore Mbeta replaced Safton Chimtokoma and Vincent Salawira.

In the 53rd minute Kadzongola came up with a brilliant delivery from a free-kick which caused havoc in Ekhaya’s defence, however, Ndhlovu’s header went wide for a goal-kick.

Another excellent pass from Mbeta to Billiat caught the visitors defence off-guard, but Billiat’s shot was saved by Mikuwa who guarded the sticks well for MAFCO in the 55th minute.

Mafco’s defending midfielder, Daudi Saiti was unfortunate in the 60th minute as his goal-bound shot hit Fanizo Mwansambo before being cleared away by Andrew Lameck. It was sent through Rodwell Robert into the box.

Moments later in the 65th minute, Rodwell Robert committed a foul on Alick Lungu within the defensive zone which resulted into a free-kick.

Happy Mphepo’s shot yielded nothing as the ball went direct into the palms of Christopher Mikuwa.

The effort of the home side, was answered in the 68th minute when Clever Chikwata put them in the lead with a powerful shot from a million-dollar pass by Hermas Kasinja as Mafco’s defence was completely outnumbered and outclassed by Ekhaya’s high pressing football into the offensive zone, and yes the home side led 1-0.

After conceding, the visitors almost replied too fast with a goal but it wasn’t to be as Robert’ shot inside the box was well saved by Amos Sande for corner kick which was wasted in the 70th minute.

In the 74th minute Stereo Gondwe Head Coach for Mafco made two changes as Awalu Alli and Dalitso Kanamwali Sato replaced Daudi Sauti and Prince Kachere. In 84th minute Robert Rodwell was replaced by Happy Mthunzi as the Soldiers kept searching for an equaliser, despite the effort the visitors did not get any reward.

Enos Chatama after sniffing a significant victory he made a professional delaying tactic in the 90+3 minutes as he introduced Joseph Saiwa for Lovemore Mbeta and moment later the final whistle was blown to mark the end of the match with the home side registering their eighth win in the first round and majestically moved to fourth position dislodging Blue Eagles FC.

Ekhaya’s James Lumbe was later voted player of the match. With the win rookies, Ekhaya have accumulated 26 points from 15 games played having won 8, drawn 2 and lost 5 and they finish amongst the top eight teams.

In a post-match interview Ekhaya head coach Enos Chatama was delighted to have collected maximum points though disappointed on how his charges missed scoring opportunities.

“We have missed a lot of chances but we are on a right direction and impressed with the way the boys played from the first to the last whistle. Mafco only played in the first 15 minutes and the game was in our hands but the only missing link is the scoring power.

“We will evaluate the squad and bring somebody who is good at scoring yes indeed I’m also concerned as coach in failing to convert the penalties we have had in this round but we hope to iron all the problems out in the second round”, said Chatama.

Mafco’s Stereo Gondwe attributed the defeat to poor officiation and pledged to continue working hard in the second round and move further on the log table.

“The boys played well today only the officiation somehow, let us down. Yes we created some chances but we were not composed enough on the goal, we’ll go back to rectify those weaknesses and bounce back stronger in the second round “, Gondwe said.

Mafco now sits on position 11 with 17 points from 15 games having won 5 drawn 2 and lost 8, scoring 14 and conceded 18 with goal difference of -4.

The team might be dislodged to 12th position if Chitipa United who plays Blue Eagles FC gets a win or a draw on Sunday at Chitipa Stadium.
