FLORENCE-(MaraviPost)-Former Rugby League player Ricky Bibey has been found dead at a four-star Continentale hotel in Florence alongside his wounded partner.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed the news of the tragedy in a statement on Sunday, July 17, 2022.

Bibey discovered dead in hotel room

The 40-year-old star reportedly arrived at the hotel on Friday night with a woman for a holiday before the unfortunate incident.

According to Dailymail, neighbors reported that they heard noises coming from the room before a chamber maid saw the woman half naked, with blood on her came out of the room screaming for help.

The hotel staff then raised an alarm and police and paramedics arrived at the scene before the unfortunate discovery.

Police said the 43-year-old woman who lodged with the former star was found covered in cuts and bruises and she is believed to be Bibey’s partner.

Born in Leigh, Greater Manchester, Bibey made a name for himself when he started playing for Wigan Warriors in 2001.

He played professional rugby for more than a decade until he retired in 2012 due to an Achilles tendon injury.

Throughout the decade of his sporting career, Bibey also played for Leigh Centurions, St Helens and Wakefield Trinity and he won the Challenge Cup twice.

Following his retirement from professional rugby, the start reportedly worked as an estate agent in the years following his retirement, and had previously run a development company.

Meanwhile, investigations into the matter has been launched to establish the cause of Mr Bibey’s death and the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
