Ken Msonda speaks on Assault charges and who he believes is controlling Lunzu Police behind the scenes

3 Min Read

In a bizarre story Kenneth Msonda PP spokesperson was involved in a brawl with a truck driver. Both Ken Msonda and the truck driver sustained visible injuries. The story gets more intriguing after the police got involved.

When The Maravi Post reached out to Kenneth Msonda who is one of the most accessible politicians in the country, He directed us to his response below which he has posted on his Facebook page:

“I deliberately did not want to comment in respect to the above news article to give South Lunzu Police Station handling the matter, investigate the issue professionally and independently.

The incident happened on Monday 29.06.15 at 9pm. We were both (me and the truck driver) asked to report at South Lunzu Police Station the following day Tuesday at 9am. I went and advised to come again following day Wednesday 1st July because the truck driver did not show up.

I went back Wednesday and was told to go again Thursday 02.07.15 at 9am because still the driver did not show up.

Thursday at 9am I went back, the Police told me that according to their investigations and findings, though I was wronged, provoked and assaulted in their presence but I over reacted by hacking the driver’s palm in defense. Because the incident happened in public; that was conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

The case was THE STATE VS ME AND TRUCK DRIVER.

I was arrested, charged and released on bail; I was told the truck driver was also arrested, charged and released on bail. We were both advised to appear before South Lunzu Magistrate Court on 11th July 2015 at 8am to answer the said charges. I was told the truck driver gave excuse that he was driving to Mozambique to deliver some cargo.

I left South Lunzu Police at 11.30 am and went home.

Same Thursday 02.07.15 at 4 pm I got a phone call to go back to South Lunzu Police Station.
At the Police station I found the truck driver, whom I was told earlier that he had gone to Mozambique.

I was told my charge has been changed to ASSAULT (that I assaulted the driver); case has been transferred to Southern Region Police Headquarters, Chichiri and that I am to report there Friday 03.07.15 at 9.30 am. I asked the Police who had instructed them to change the charge and transfer the case to Southern region Police Headquarters, the response I received was not convincing ” MUKAMVA KWA MABWANA KONKO MAWA”.

I left South Lunzu Police Station at 6.30pm after being advised to report at Southern Region Police Headquarters Chichiri tomorrow Friday 03.07.15 at 9.30am.

Someone is calling shorts behind the scene telling the Police at South Lunzu Police Station and the truck driver what to do.”

The question is WHO????????

Possibly I shall know Friday 03.07.15 at 9.30am at Southern Region Police Headquarters, Chichiri.
That’s the DPP administration!”
