The Eleventh Luwawa International Mountain Bike Marathon race is fixed for Saturday the 14th of June at 10.00am, and is set to be one of the biggest and best yet. The race has now been designated as a national seeding event, bringing greater attraction to the challenge and for keen bikers making it a real date for the diary. Twelve of South Africa’s most experienced riders have already registered for the race who, on the Sunday and Monday after the ride, will be doing Luwawa Lodge’s three day Mountain Bike wilderness trail to Lake Malawi.

Luwawa International Mountain bike race is a 42-50km challenge held in June every year, and is a competition gaining a reputation throughout the region as a tough but exciting competition.

The event is open to all, regardless of age or ability. There is an ample supply of water stops as well as first aid facilities and logistical support from staff at the Luwawa Lodge. The route varies though usually starts at the lodge and runs along the ridges of the Viphya Mountains.  There are great views along the whole of the route and of course plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife.
