Malawi graft body pounces on tax agency officers

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s graft body, Anti-Corruption Bureau on Friday, November 20, 2020, arrested three Malawi Revenue Authority tax officers for corruption.

The three have been identified as Christophoro Chidamm’odzi, Peter Ntopa, and Francis Malunga.

In a statement ACB Principal Public Relations Officer Egrita Ndala pointed out the three demanded MK60 million from a tax payer in Kasungu in order to reduce tax but they receive MK12.5 million.

ACB conducted investigation into the matter which established that they had received the said sum

The statement further said the three are expected to be charged with corrupt practices by a public officer and corrupt use of official powers contrary to section 24 (1) and section 25(1) of the corrupt practices respectively.

They will be taken to court after being interviewed by the ACB.
