BLANTYRE(MaraviPost)–Gender Minister Patricia Kaliati, who was supposed to be prosecuted on corruption allegations in the award ofthe Nyika-Vwaza Ecotourism Reserve contract, has been freed by the country’s graft busting Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Kaliati was alleged to have received a bribe from a United Arab Emirates firmwhen she was serving as Minister of Tourism during the late Bingu Wa Mutharika’s regime.
The graft-busting body had been given consent by former Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Rosemary Kanyuka to prosecute Kaliati on the corruption allegations.
But on Saturday, ACB spokesperson Egrita Ndala told local press that there is no case against Kaliati so far.
“The Bureau is still waiting for responses from foreign government authority through mutual legal assistance,” said Ndala.
Recently, Kaliati was also freed in the treason case she was facing together with Malawi leader Peter Mutharika, Goodall Gondwe, Bright Msaka, Jean Kalilani and Nicholas Dausi.
