LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi has enough natural resources to walk out of poverty and become Africa’s economic giant.
The visiting Strengthening Science and Mathematics Education in Africa (SMASE) team to Malawi also observes that the country has no excuse for persistent hunger regarding to fresh water being blessed with.
SMASE team leader who is also Zambia’s Education Ministry Directorate of National Science Centre Dr. Benson Banda told reporters on Thursday, March 20, 2025 in the capital Lilongwe that Malawi needs to put practical policies that can drive serious development agenda.
Dr Banda said SMASE has passion to help African countries including Malawi to unlock its inactive approach towards correct usage of natural resources.
He therefore expressed admiration of Malawi’s geographical position of having rivers, lakes, mountains, minerals which remain untapped for meaningful development.
Dr Banda pointed out, “Looking at abundance of natural resources including fresh waters, Malawi could be a food basket for now.
“Malawi has no excuses for persistent hunger due to abundance water supplies which could be utilised efficiently”.
He added, “Our grouping wants to help Malawi with viable technologies that can unlock the citizenry thinking to innovative for this country’s growth.
“With Science and Technology fairs and conference which SMASE wants to host in Malawi in November this year, will help the country to be on the map”.
In her remarks, Higher Education Minister Dr Jessie Kabwila lauded SMASE’s insights while shaping Malawi’s agenda 2063.
Dr. Kabwila said SMASE visit to Malawi is a true reflection on how President Lazarus Chakwera’s leadership is promoting regional integration.
The Minister who is also governing Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Publicist said the current leadership has provided energy sector support including reliable electricity to increase productivity in manufacturing industry.
“Despite the challenges the country leadership is facing, we also making strides in other aspects including the energy sector that we have electricity all day while our neighbours are struggling.
“SMASE visit is a welcome gesture that will use its science and technology models on how should be used in Malawi towards agenda 63”, excited Dr Kabwila.
